No, its an A-20G that will be coming – in its original scheme as ‘Big Nig’
Bruce
I wonder how long before some PC imbercile decides that “Big Nig” is not an acceptable name as it might offend…
I seem to remember something similar happening with the fibreglass “Sherman was right” P51 for the AAM at DX. With one stroke of a PC pen, history is changed…
“The last days of Hitler” by Anton Joachimsthaler. Probably the most in depth and believable account of the lead up to, and the last days in the Berlin Bunker. It blows holes in a lot of theories and previous works on the subject and directly quotes witness statements mainly from the mid-1950’s from survivors of Hitler’s personal staff returning after a less than pleasant spell in some Russian prisons. How 10 years hard labour was deemed neccesary for Hitler’s personal dentist’s assistant is quite beyond me:confused: An excellent book. Not light reading material and not for those lacking a strong stomach…
My WD disc has RCAF3404/Con. No. 64-2157 as the most likely candidate. Hope that helps. It was to be restored by ARC but never happened.
There was indeed another example stored northside if I remember correctly. It came over from Canada for Jonathan Spinks (?) but I believe he unfortunately passed away and it was returned to his parents/estate. A look at the Warbird Directory CD might have the i.d. I seem to remember a picture of it in Warbirds Worldwide.
Me too 🙂
I will say that the Buchon at Legends had a very convincing camouflage. The owners must have done alot of “homework” before applying the scheme it now has. Its flying display was also very enjoyable to watch. More power to them!
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing this rare aircraft fly and appreciated the scheme even though it is of course incorrect for a Hispano airframe. As the person responsible for researching, overseeing and doing some of the application on G-AWHE (that’s the one on overhaul) on behalf of the owner, I can assure you that we go to great lengths to try to get the scheme as authentic as we can. The scheme will represent a BF109 on a Buchon airframe. We are using correct RLM colour’s matched to known correct chips. There will have to be some adjustment of certain details of the scheme to accomodate the different lines forward of the firewall but it should still look good. Even the pipework in the engine bay is being colour coded as per the RLM directive for the different systems and you’re not even likely to ever see them! Although not in Spanish A/F colours I am sure most people will still enjoy this aircraft when we roll it out in the future. Apart from the Confederate (sorry Commemorative:rolleyes:) Air Force and their Wildcat the “bad old days” of 1970’s glossy cammo are history. Unless someone knows different;)
I suppose though that the average “airshow tourist” wants to see a german scheme on a 109!
In the case of the Buchon under overhaul at Duxford, it is down to what the owner wants on his machine and nothing to do with the desires of “airshow tourists”, photographers, enthusiasts, engineers or colour scheme specialists. I am sure the warbird colour scheme debate will rage on for ever. Possibly the only “neutral” scheme for a Buchon (that would avoid the Luftwaffe/Spanish/Battle of Britain film debate) would be to paint it in a purpose designed civil scheme with the registration in the CAA required 30cm letters on the fuselage sides…;)
I thought MH434 looked pretty good in its civil scheme myself.
Yes ARC are doing the Buchon overhaul not HFL. Its coming on nicely and the fuselage was trundled into the paintshop on Thursday last week. You’ll have to wait to find out the scheme though…
BWB, just ‘cos you’re bored and haven’t got one of your own to play with anymore, leave “Trents finest” alone and go back to playing with your new corgi XVIII on the carpet 😀
I am not aware of the Duxford based example having the on-board aircrew liquid refreshment facility. Perhaps this is one of the Flug Werk modifications I have heard rumours of…;)
.
Who actually owns the T.20? Is it a planes of fame job?
Try this for an answer…
Roobarb you are such a wag:dev2:
I understand Terrence is looking good for the weekend and is ready to tease the 24 Alpha crowd by the fence tomorrow…:p
Spitfire P7350 is a bit optimistic as it didn’t have any wings fitted at 17:30 this evening…
wow optimistic or what, can only hope for the best show yet:D
And of course the “best show” will be the one you have all been waiting for to emerge out of “Area 51”. There’s no denying it, those hundreds of photographers hanging on the fence at hold point 24 Alpha from thursday onwards are only there for one thing….
The one, the only…star of Legends and immune to the CAA
Terrence the Tug! 😀
Lets see those pictures…
NB: “Terrence” appears dependent on servicability and subject to available fuel uplift…:p
I remember another operator based at Biggin Hill for a long time who had no end of exotic treasures in his hangar and chose not to place them on display at most of the Air Fairs and September shows held there during his “residence”. True the Wildcat, P38, Corsair and three of his Spitfires made occasional and very welcome appearences, but for the main he kept them all locked away, because he chose to do so for his own reasons. These aeroplanes are after all private property, and it is their owners who decide what they wish to do with them not the enthusiasts, general public or organisers of the airshows. Do all the aircraft resident at Duxford display or go on show at every airshow? I think not. I know the owner of this aeroplane in question and I know he has his own private reasons for it not displaying this weekend. I am sure it will nonetheless be an excellent show if the poor weather holds off. Only two T.9’s and a IXb Spitfire? You obviously weren’t going to Biggin in the 1970’s…
