Does anyone have info on aircraft that managed to hit the Wrekin during the war years? There are rumours of a B17 creaming itself up the west face but I have no other info.
When Telford Developement Corporation started work on the construction of Brookside estate in the early 70’s they found quantities of .50 ammo in the ground, seems like a couple of P47’s from Atcham shook hands during a training flight and one went in just near the railway bridge at Tweedale and the other I think ended up in Arcle Wood and its remains are said to be still in there.
When i was with Cosford Aerospace Museum (original membership nr 14) we made a few enquiries and at that time the wood was privately owned and strictly no trespassing,

    regards, Terry

pop over to Sleap airfield (Shropshire Aero Club) inbetween Shewsbury and Wem. there the WARTIME AIRCRAFT RECOVERY GROUP (WARG) theres loadsa info n bits n pieces there.. no B17 as far as im aware although i think there was an Anson or Oxford with one or two P47`s around from Atcham.

loads of losses around my way, what with the hills and mountains and several training units around on the Shropshire/Wales border

ive just had a look at my other pics and XZ284 was without the probe. XZ284 and XV244 up n down n going round n round as ive plenty of pics of them. the Nimrod that ditched in the bay broke its back but all the crew got away safely.

    shame about the Shack

not a single phantom oddly enough. the Herc was a USA thing and did you notice the German Navy Tornados.. glad the pillbox is still there. not long after my visit up that way a Nimrod ditched in the bay beyond the runway at Kinloss.

at least nowerdays we are mostly in a position to discover faults like this before they lead to a possible major malfunction or disaster before they happen..

as usual the press have got hold of a mole hill and made it a mountain

Er… the ‘glide clear’ rule applies. But since the wording is something like ‘in the event of an engine failure’ twins can effectively ignore the glide clear rule as long as they can maintain height on the remaining engine. Hence the use of Seneca and similar on London traffic reporting.

    Moggy

the BBMF Spits n Hurri`s have extra special permission to fly low over the middle of London when they do….

its nice to have the connection with the photographer and the photo, thanks for the memories Darryl, seeing the two Mossi`s fly over at a none airshow time is a precious moment locked in my grey matter forever
