I think you missed the irony in my last post Joe ? :p Good follow up info all the same. ;):
Touche! as they say..
I think that once this mysterious “new owner” builds the infrastructure into EDI to allow it to handle all of these sought after long haul flights, Edinburgh folk appear to banging on the door for, then you may well get your wish.
Any new owner will be assured of a market..certainly 😎
Until then I still say “yer gaff’s too wee”. 😀 😉 :p
Which isn’t EDI’s fault Allen..it’s too small at the behest
of the present owners, why improve when you run the whole central Scotland shebang?
The same healthy competion at EDI that BAA currently ‘enjoy’ from PIK would send shockwaves
through BAA’s shareholder ranks.
I reckon the London Airport monopoly will be the first
to be broken…followed by Scotland. 😎
Here we go again… 😉
One must remember that both EDI and GLA have the same owners…
Look at the evidence from Teletext holidays:
City second on list of high flyers
PEOPLE in Edinburgh are the second most flighty in Britain, according to plane-travel statistics out today.
Those living in the Capital take an average of 2.13 flights a year.
Topping the table compiled by Teletext Holidays is Surrey Heath with an average of 2.9 flights per person in 2003.
In contrast, Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland was the least flighty area with only 0.23 flights per person taken last year.
Based on responses from more than 27,000 people, the survey showed:
• Nearly 20 million flights were taken in 2003 compared with just over 18 million in 2000;
• More than a million people took five or more plane trips in 2003;
• The proportion of people taking seven or more flights a year has soared by 48 per cent in the past three years;
• The national average per person is one flight a year, with those living near airports taking the most air trips.
Marc Bell, marketing director at teletextholidays.co.uk, said: “Low-cost flying is having a major effect on the accessibility of the skies.
“Jumping aboard for a weekend away is no longer the preserve of the professional classes.”
Indisputable evidence that if Canadian and other long-haul flights were available from EDI – which undoubtably they would under an independent owner – they would be successful. 😀
Not everyone devotes all their time to visiting airliners.net you know 😉
Not when they have this excellent forum! 😀
I don’t see PIK being too succesful given the high frequency of Canadian flights already from GLA by Air Canada, Air Transat, Zoom and Canadian Affair ? But good luck to them anyhow.
Lower handling charges at PIK will be reflected in lower
fares… and the success of PIK/Canada routes.
The GLA market will be undoubtably be diluted as a
result. 😮
A tour operator to Canada, and a major one at that.
The YYZ market from GLA is well and truely saturated.
They should come to EDI! 🙂
Will BAA encourage it? They get their money in Scotland
irrespective of which BAA airport you fly from..
That’s what monopolies are all about… 😡
Probably a load of old cobblers if its off there.
That forum has an excellent record of misinformation.
Germanwings crashes, EDI operations moving to Dundee,
anymore of note? 😉
Hog as much bandwith as you like!
Here’s a ‘Baby’
Kind of ironic that it seems to spend little time in Welsh Wales
Love that middle shot….kinda makes one want to VisitWales! 😀
Lovely shots Silver Snapper! Top marks from me!
I am wishing the time away for my trip to Cairns, I’ll be barely 10 minutes away from the airport. :p :p
Wow what fantastic shots… Dont just tell us…. Post all those photos you say you have! Dont just trickle them! 😀
I don’t want to ‘hog’ the bandwidth, there are other guys
out there with contributions.. 😮
Not such a gorgeous day today!! 😮
Tomorrow morning’s forecast more of the same….
No droughts this year! :p
What ISO setting did you use and what are you using to compress ?
ISO 400 and photoshop 7 😮
When was that first photo taken. It has an 80’s feel to it, yet it has the interim BMI livery
1st pic…19th. March 2003
2nd pic…20th May 2003
3rd pic….15th. Nov 2003
Surprising short space of time…
Those 737-500s in bmi colours were nicer than any other plane in any other colours.
Better than bmi’s new colours. 🙁
