Just a thought but just how do you do a re-enactment if somebodys not dressed up as the Germans????????………………….
Should they still not be worried about leaving the snow on the airframe? Thats an awful lot of weight the main gear was not designed to take for a protracted amount of time…………………….
Nice! I wish I had a place big enough to take it!
Blimey if I bought that home my misses would find some where big enough to take it!! But it’s a very nice prop and always nice to know the history……
Sitting here at work thinking about it, tying the nose gear down is not a good thing either! the stress is going in the opposite direction to which it was designed in the wheel well structure you may well pull the attach point off. at least the main gear is being commpressed as it would under a woopsie daisey landing!!
Like this?
Yes Chino is a must visit place! it’s changed a fair bit over the years not as “open”. as it used to be but a walk around the Tarmac is a must ‘coz it’s not just the museums, the whole airport is packed full of cool airplanes. took my first ride in a mustang at Chino and you could too just call ahead and book!!
Not to start a shooting match but why did’nt they allow the 190 to fly in the UK?
lets see, more than fifty years after a war in which quite a few excited young men were killing other excited young men out of the skys and people actually spend time trying to nit pick on whether the scores are real or not!!Only met J Johnson once (my AOC in Aden)and would not dream of asking did you really shoot down fifty?!!!
The fact that all their collective kills saved us should be sufficient.
Here here I won’t be taking all the pictures of JJ of my aviation wall any time soon! 1 kill or 50 kills they were ALL hero’s to me…………..
The airport….probably.
The airport is in the middle of a large agricultural area.
They MIGHT have light rail from LA to Ontario (or other points east) which MIGHT stop in “downtown” Chino, but remember, we’re NOT talking about going from London to Cambridge….(or even Ipswich).:DLA is huge, but it does not have the same population density of London, so do not expect the same level of public transport.
Downtown Chino? that would be the prison then!!!!!! It’s got quite populated there in recent years (Not the prison) not as rural as it used to be, the smell of cow exhaust after the 1st rain of the season used to be overpowering, mind you plenty of soft landing spots for off field excursions! still a lot of cows mind you I think they beat out the local human population by about 500 to 1 …………………
Did you get to Planes of Fame or just Yank’s?
Yea thats how I remember it, my boys were about 7 and 9 when we used to go most weekends for breakfast at Floe’s and a wander around. I think my boys have had there bum’s in more planes than 75% of pilots!! I took a ride in the museums P51 and while we were up we did some air to air shots with a P38 that was on it’s maiden flight after restoration. Steve Hinton was the pilot of the P38………………………Thats me in the back!!
I agree the shuttle was dangerous to fly, it was also a white elephant. It was originally designed to service a space station in the early 70s which in turn was to be used as a stepping stone to Mars.
Then the world got bored with the moon missions and Nixon cancelled the station and the Mars missions but left the shuttle in place for Low earth orbit missions, it went round and round just like John Glenn did back in 1962, it has been doing that for 29 years, not really extending space exploration is it.
Regards
Nic
Funny I could have sworn that I’ve seen a naffing great space station up there somewhere? and Hubble and later hubbles repair? And if I still had a right testicle I would gladly give it up for a ride on the last mission………………..
Strange there own blurb makes no mention of the fact that Hucknall is the birth place of the Merlin powered P51? first prototype was produced and flown from there……………………..
Perhaps you’d better read the blurb more carefully. It does state the first Merlin powered Mustang flew from Hucknall
Doh! …………………..speed reading again………..
Something between £2/3million has been tossed around for the cost of a respar, as well as the cost of a hangar and certified engineers to carry out the work. its a BIG job!
How many man hours are needed to do a spar change? I restore Motor Cars for a living and I can do an awfull lot work at $100 per hour for 4.8million dollars!!!
Case of my Rolls-Royce Tech Rep who used to ask, How do you know some markV’s didn’t come with those stub’s? Have you seen ALL the MkV’s………………………
