There was definitely a single Horizontal Tail Plane with the elevator….I had an interest in it but if I remeber correctly it went for around £600. Not sure where it went but Roger Marley was there with an interest but also baulked at the cost.
I assumed it went the same way as the cockpit…but looks like it may not have.

Ian/Pat,
I think the cast that the article/person was referring to was the spar lugs. As you know there are 8 rather large castings to fit into the 3″ carry throughs. Looking at the drawings they were roughly ‘stamped’ to shap and then the final details/finishing made. I have been looking into this for years and they are just a little too big for the contacts I have so would need a company with larger equipment.
As for the tubes there are a number that are rolled, they have different specs e.g. A.Std 183/Y, A.Std 183/W etc.
2 1/4″ (14 swg),
2″ (17 swg),
1 1/4″ (17 & 20 swg),
1 1/2″ (17 & 20 swg),
1 3/8″ (17 swg),
1 3/4″ (20 swg)
Will be mailing later Ian/Pat

Bob,
When I have been after steel tubing for the Typhoon structure I found this place in Derby could supply almost any size I wanted (up to 3″ for the main spars). They were very reasonable priced but weren’t aircraft grade….give them a go if you are stuck

after a little search it looks like it could have been one of the BBMF spitfire performing for a Jaguar owners club event at warwick castle…was supposed to be the Dakota but it apparently has a sick engine.
Was a very nice quick display by the BBMF….really unexpected 🙂
You don’t happen to have a contact for the project in Canada do you Richard? Or anyone else if they know 🙂
And ‘drawings’ refere to technical drawings….aperture cards
The location was unknown to me but I knew they existed somewhere…yes they are in a safe place 🙂
I referred to Henley drawings existing earlier in the thread….I finally got my act together and went through with the opportunity to save some Hawker Drawings. I have only been through a fraction of them so far but there are indeed some Henley drawings there including some G.A. ones.
Part of the reason why I am picking this one to concentrate on is because of the engine mount and frame….genuine (I assume from the same aircraft as the engine). A bit like the one on display in France, that has the front main spars aswell, there must be more to the history of the remaining airframe otherwise the engine frame would have been mangled. The a always persistent rumours of wings surviving in France and other parts of Europe so perhaps there is some truth and they could even be from these exhibits.
I will try to see if I can get in touch with nils for some further details…
no-one seen this Sabre before? Looks to have been prepared well for display so hoping someone may have seen it before
Not that I know what it came from but it almost looks like an ‘add-on’ for a fighter-bomber, the nearest I have seen is in the Typhoon (Duxfords cockpit is a bomber with additional controls). Perhaps you could start with the british types that could have come down in that area?
I will give them a try although there was another organisation that was supposed to be getting drawings but they said to me ‘even if we get them you can’t see them’!!! not really the point of trying to save them lol
Thanks for the idea.
