One technical doubt…Does any navy around the world operate tankers able to keep up with its fast combat ships (25-30kts)? Or are tankers for ever doomed to be left behind in war?

Just to clarify this issue, the Atlantico Sul is still not operational due to some legal technicalities and lack of funds, it doesn’t have even a crew assigned to it yet…

In my humble naval ignorance I thought that the bow area could be converted in a Large Hangar for Super Puma sized helos…and a large helipad could be set up there. The mid sections could be converted to personel (marine units) transport while maintaining the container capability abovedeck… Would it make any sense to have large folding floating barges hinged against the sides of the ship in order to simplify loading and unloading while at sea? Away from ports?…
How much more vulnerable is a civilian converted ship when compared to a dedicated military ship buit from scratch for this purpose? Would you care to dwelve on this issue for a while? What exactly is an AOE? MHCs? T-AKE? 😉 In plain English please for the naval-impaired amongst us, please 😉 (ME!)

I dont think that chinese interest in CVs is related to an hipotetical Taiwan invasion plan…. I think the Red Chinese expect Taiwan to be drawn more and more into their economic gravity well… all the way to anexation (recal Hong Kong?)
In a “post Taiwan” chinese expansion the CVs might be a giant sized tool in a scale able to push the US Navy back into the middle of the Pacific… Mybe back to Hawaii… Of course this wouul take a massive blue water fleet… At least some 10-odd Nimitz sized CVs at least and a matching number of escorts…
Sounds strange, improbable? Remember it has happened before.. (Japan)

I wonder could the HMS Invincible be converted into an exclusive heavy/long range-UAV carrier? Would that make any military sense? It came to me that besides the Harrier no other regular fighter would be able to operate from it´s short and ski-jump configured flightdeck… Helicopter and specialy tiltrotors ara a another issue altogether…

Australia has been named before as a possible destination…

Jokingly we call walkarounds of ships, “swimarounds”… and no we haven’t done any of them to this date, though it’s in our plans… 😀

P-95… hehehe sorry mate, yeah I love them and Barzil isn’t the only user of them now I hear
Chile, Argentina (during the Falklands War…) and Gabon (some peoples say Angola too, but this is unconfirmed…)
Go to the “Busca” (search) section of BaseMilitar and select “P-95” from the first form (“Aeronaves”/Aircraft) you’ll see what we know about all airframes that were put in service by the Brazilian Air Force… A complete walkaround is in our plans

Actualy Kovy it´s still far from done… there is a number of steps before this can be counted as a fact… Congress has to apporove this deal and the governments situation in relation to Congress is Chaotic to say the least… It will be an uphill batthe for the M2000C…. let´s wait a while before popping the champagne bottle…

Well the LAAD pictures were all repaired! Enjoy!
“P-91”? the current MP aircraft in Brazilian Airforce Service is the P-95 “Bandeirante Patrulha” (EMB-111). Embraer is pushing the hypotetical “P-99” MPA, derived from the ERJ-145 but still this product seems to atract few fans or suitors inside the Air Force. Some weeks ago there was some sort of discussion regarding an E-Jet derived MPA aircraft (read the news item on the “Notes” section o BaseMilitar) possibly this is some possibility derived from the recente removal of the Embraer ERJ-145 airframe from the ACS competition in the US for being “too small and light”… E-170s and E-90 airframes are being considered now amongst airframes from other sources…
I hope I answered your concerns adequately. 😉

OOPS! Sorry for that technical slip, we just switched to a new hosting company, we must have forgotten to upload some of the stuff… Will look at it ASAP! 🙂

I read in the internet that the Danes were thinking of donating one of the subs to Bulgaria…. I would be a “NATO welcome gift”…
Any news on that
Thanks for the kind words Lamps, but we believe we must be doing something right…There´s been a notable change in one of Brazil’s top magazines for Defence/Navy matters, they suddenly started publishing a much larger number of pictures… It´s nice to help others to improve their news coverage. 😎
Don’t forget to look up all the detailed aircraft walkarounds in our site, plenty of cockpit and system minutiae… 😀
