I have a feeling that Russia’s population decrease will slow down soon enough (in fact I believe it already has) and the population should stabilise at around 140 million. I would be more worried about Germany’s low birthrate.
why does the VVS need new MiG-35s? Don’t they have enough MiG-29s lying around that could upgraded to SMT standard or even better?
You forgot about the Corona spy satellites. I believe it was these satellites which gave a more complete picture of Soviet ballistic missile plans. The so-called ‘missile gap’ was pretty much debunked during the Kennedy administration.

Much of that has been explained in detail. The typical tactics of ERAF/ETAF pilots was to approach at high dash speed, wait for the lock, launch a salvo of R-27 missiles at the very edge of their maximum range and then often not even wait long enough for the missiles not to lose track (they’re SARH, not fire/forget).
Another thing were the missiles themselves. Most of ERAF inventory was bought cheaply from Ukraine – with expired warranty and then stored in improper conditions.
And who says that; the manufacturer of the R-27?;)
Airframe time on individual aircraft is a pretty subjective issue. it often depends on how the aircraft is utilised and where it is utilised. Aircraft are often given a fixed amount of airframe hours, but this is often extended – for example, Luftwaffe F-4 extended to 8,000+ hours.
The determining factor is not the potential lifetime of any particular airframe – but the desire to keep it flying such a long time. Soviet legacy types lose out in this respect. Will we see a MiG-29 with 7,000 hours on its airframe like that Jordanian AF F-16?;)
