I’ve already pointed out how the Americans needed foreign expertise to develop their jet engine tech. The point being – most countries do tend to borrow technology from each other to a large extent. Sometimes this ‘borrowing’ can be easily seen (Tu-4), or not so easily, J69 (Turbomeca Marboré) on USAF T-37 Tweet.
Are they going to resume production of the D-18T for all these An-124s they are supposed to build? I wouldn’t have thought it likely.
You could also argue that Russian jet engine technology is entirely due to us Brits handing over examples of Rolls Royce engines to the Russians…what was it that Stalin said…

Your average RAF pilot might actually have inferior foreign language skills, compared a previous generation of RAF officer (but I’m only guessing). The French officer’s English language ability would certainly have improved during the same period.
Compare the alleged foreign language skills of RAF officer Prince William to those of his granny’s, who I believe, can speak very good French and German.
Not just the avionics, that’s usually the relatively easy part – heck even much older gen planes have been upgraded. I am talking of the overall aircraft – the structures, the reliability, etc. Thats the point – if the J-15 is an upgrade, it has to be better in at least some and at least equal across the board in the rest of the parameters. Right now we cannot say that.
Plus, I am not yet sold on the WS-10 TBH. Lets give it a few years. The AL-31 series OTOH, has demonstrated reliability and performance. Its a proven engine.
Isn’t the WS-10 based on the CFM56 turbofan, a very tried and tested powerplant?
It would be interesting to compare the WS-10 performance such as Time-Between-Overhaul and operating lifespan, compared to the latest versions of the AL-31?
How do you know for sure its an upgrade? It could as well be inferior to the original Su-33 in several parameters for all we know.

The B-47 medium bomber was an air defense nightmare! It flew very high, near a high mach number making it virtually impossible to intercept. Plus the USAF had 1,500 B-47s
There was a parallel to this with the 1983 shootdown of Korean Airlines flight KAL 007, near Sakhalin in the Soviet Union. PVO Su-15s had a hard time catching up on a target flying at Mach 0.80+ and 35,000 feet. I think it took the PVO over an hour or more to do so?

Surely that’s a bit of a red herring – don’t most versions of the F-15 have a better thrust-to-weight ratio than most versions of the Su-27 family?
