The T-50 airframe isn’t much lighter than the F-22 airframe but the dry and afterburning thrust from the 117 motor is not close to the PW F119 – the power/weight ratio of T-50 still isn’t there, for the moment. I think even the F-16E Block 60 has a better power/ weight ratio – the F110-GE-132 turbofan is certainly in the same thrust and technology class as 117.

It’s not a design decision or matter of build quality. It has nothing to do with where they expect to fight. Its basic material science. Metal at warmer temperature warps and you get that effect on panels/rivets. Every jet will experience the same thing. Its also why ships develop that same kind of warping effect in warm waters no matter what yard made them — American, Russian or Chinese. Metal warps — news at 11.

I wasn’t really commenting on the su-35’s build quality – I really don’t know if it is built to high production standards or not. I was just commenting on the idea of the Russian military fighting a full war in the last place they would want fight it – deep in the Russian hinterland.

Russian jets are designed to fight a war in Siberia – do the Russians really expect to fight some sort of civil war in the future? It’s a bit like saying that all USAF fighter jets are designed to fight a war in Kansas.

I’m sure they are currently training up pilots for Su-35S and its new capability.

Pilots and ground crew are trained on a new type many years befor it reaches IOC.

But it has the VVS standard array of weapons sertified.

Well F-35s have been transfered to the USAF and they have been “operating” them since 2010. USN received their first F-35C last year. But that is not the same as initial operational capability.
They have delivered Su-35s to the RuAF earlier this year but I’m fairly sure Su-35 has a lot testing before it still – have they carried out live-fire testing of missile armament such as R-77 yet?
