I don’t know anything about the Admiral Kuznetsov’s serviceability, but it was mentioned in the video that the air wing had completed 120 hours of flying during the sailing – is that a good figure? And only for the Su-33 alone?
I think you are buying into the ‘early MIG-29 avionics were worthless!” thing a little too much. India found them clearly superior to Mirage 2000, specifically in radar. I’ll take the MiG over the Phantom hands down.
The Indians probably found the MiG-29’s radar superior to the Mirage 2000 in the air-to-air mode, the MiG radar isn’t all that bad, and the early Cyrano based radars on the Mirage were fairly poor (certainly compared to what you could find on an F/A-18)
The F-4E should still hold its own against a MiG-29 in BVR, thought. The Phantom carries twice the number of medium range missiles to begin with. I’m pretty certain the F-4 radar compares just as well. And then you have the backseat operator in the F-4, huge advantage…

You have to subtract the velocity or speed of the ammunition rounds from the gun, from the forward speed of the bomber – in the case of the Tu-22M that should be a fair speed, if not supersonic even.
Basically, the effective range of the guns are reduced in half, perhaps?:confused:
I think your answer probably hits the nail on the head. The Iranians are probably right not buying shiny new planes, which probably have limited utility against America or Israel…

They’re talking about still-on-the-drawing board next-gen bomber. Sukhoi T-50 should be ready for LIRP by 2015.
Many sources estimate that PAK FA should be in front line service by 2020 – so you both could be wrong.

OK, your at Mach 6 at 80,000 ft – due to bad mission planning you are going to directly overfly a hostile SAM battery.
Lets say the SAM has an average speed of Mach 3 to intercept and travels vertically, so takes 25 seconds to reach 80,000 ft. That means, the SAM launches when your about 45 km away from the SAM site.
You detect the launch ahead of you and make an avoiding turn at 5g (and continue it).
By the time you’ve travelled that 45km, your 15km away from where the SAM thought you would be and already moving at a speed of Mach 4 away from the SAM site.
Good luck making that up.
All SAM missiles have to deal with maneuvering targets, whether it be Stinger, Roland or S-400, it’s nothing new. Unless the target aircraft was far enough from the missile when it was launched (and the missile therefore has already lost a lot of energy) the target will probably still not be able to evade the missile. The same physical conditions apply to the missile-target relationship regardless whether the target is an A-10 flying at M0.6 – or some type of spaceplane doing Mach 6.
Also I would imagine an aircraft flying at Mach is at a higher altitude than 80,000 feet, 120,000?
You will rarely see a photo of a Hind armed with more than 2 rocket pods hanging out of it, i.e. the other 2 weapons pylons are usually vacant. Putting 6 heavily armed and equipped troops in it would reduce its maximum altitude even further, I’d say?:confused:

Predictable trajectory = easy (comparatively).
What sort of maneuvers would you be making at Mach 6?
Do you think ‘jinking’ was a part of the syllabus when they were training MiG-25 and SR-71 pilots?
