I shall certainly be there

TB885 is currently stored, in several locations, and has not had any work done on it so far as I know for a long time.

Well, if my lottery numbers come up I’d certainly go for it. An A-20G Havoc (43-9941) of the 669th BS, 416th BG(L) crashed at Erith, Kent, only a mile & a bit from where I live, on the 24th April 1944. All three crew were killed & I’d love to have it on display here in the markings of 43-9941 as a tribute to this crew.

The slide was taken from the 8 O’clock position, & there is nothing military looking in sight.
LR email will be sent ASAP.

Martel is listed as flying P7350 when he was shot down on the 25th October 1940 in ‘Battle of Britain then & now’ but ‘Poles in Defence of Britain’ says he was flying P7325 XT-W at the time.

Are these two places near to any other towns other than Barling?
The only ref to Barling in ‘The Blitz then & now’ for 1944 is to a V2 coming down in November 1944.
Could it be under another location?
Geoff.
An interesting website http://aeroplane-stars.co.uk/

There was one in ‘Battle of the River Plate’ pretending to be a Sea Fox, although this was modified to make it look more like the real thing.

The only Spencers amongst ‘The Few’ are:-
S/Ldr. Desmond Gerard Heath SPENCER who served with 266 Sqn during the battle. He died in 1995.
Sgt. Gordon Hamilton SPENCER who served with 504 Sqn during the battle. He is not listed amongst the surviving ‘Few’ by the Battle of Britain Historical Society.
Have you got a service number for your chap? If not try looking on any RAF documents that your friend might have relating to his father, or on any items he may have from his father’s time in the RAF, as these might have all or part of the service number.
The service number is pretty important when looking for info on any ex-serviceman, and I don’t think your friend will be able to apply to Insworth for a copy of his father’s service records without it.
Do you have any idea what aircraft he flew, or even what type such as bomber or fighter?
Geoff.
Peter Ayerst will also be joining us on the 21st May.
