I would expect this will serve as a reminder to everyone who flies as crew in every type of aircraft. Those of us who hear on the radio that other aircraft are in the vicinity and at a similiar height will remember the relief when a visual contact is made at a safe distance. And also recall the anxiety when looking for the other traffic. If the other aircraft is operating on the same frequency a rapid solution when no visual has been made is to climb or descend for vertical seperation. Decide early.
Late avoiding action gives everyone a fright.

I do not have an aviation engineering background and your images convey the complex innards of part of the electrical aspect of the Lightning in such a way that I am amazed that they flew at all . Top marks for patience and vision.

The Nimrod fleet has not patrolled the UK EEZ for a long while.The role was contracted out to civil ops, firstly a F27 Friendship and currently two Cessna twins.They look for illegal fishing and there are contracts in place for pollution survey. The last regular offshore Nimrod maritime patrols were for search and rescue. There were some newer crew members who had never flown maritime but stayed on the overland C3 tasking .
