Gosh, summing up people on appearance in a few seconds, wow thats amazing? !! But surely you cannot judge by appearance, it is actions , words that matter. Ok i know in some cases a uniform is worn but that actually just adds to the problem.

My own experience is that appearance is misleading. many well educated folks dress down when out and about and they can also be scruffy and loaded with disposable income, And check out how easily con men fool people by acting out an expected appearance.
My own appearance varies according to where I am going and what i am planning to do.Even my accent varies depending on who I am with.

Great photos, I am even keener now to visit.

There is a chance I might be able to persuade a friend with a Luscombe to fly in to Bruntingthorpe this year. What are the rules regarding flying in?

So what happens to the prop blades which will be replaced? Can I suggest that they are auctioned as part of the fund raising. Are there any other used or surplus non airworthy parts which can be sold?

I wonder if this is the supplier of the new blades?

I cringe at the thought of spending time and money getting geophizz etc done, finding good results, in comes the digger, hurrah crates which are crushed and then (probably on live TV like the Pyramid fiasco)..
mounds of corroded alloy…aaaarrghhhh my nightmare.

And for those who want to satisfy going underground without actually leaving the keyboard, try this site…http://www.subbrit.org.uk/

With regard to Uk MOD salvage Marine operations……..
Where human remains are discovered the salvor must follow a pre arranged procedure which has been set up as part of the issue of licence. Recent Tv footage of the discovery of the wreck of HMS Victory in the English Channel showed this happening.
The prescence of remains should not in my view prevent a salvage, due respect is needed to the remains and this was evident from the crew of the Ocean Odyssey at the HMS Victory site.

Interesting that the MOD use a different rule for marine salvage compared to aircraft recovery.

John you should tell Mark 12 that Syrup of Figs works well and he can buy that locally.

I sense a similiar situation to that which covers shipwreck recovery. It took a long while before many land archaeologists could accept that it in most cases it is not possible to apply land standards to underwater sites. And because marine archaeology started in the Med it was wrongly assumed that the methods which work in areas of low tidal movement could also be expected in the shallow rock strewn coasts of Ireland and West Scotland.

Those with years of practical experience in wreckovery can explain to a traditional archaeologist on site why there is nothing to be gained from the painstaking methods used by AAIB on a recent accident site. When the record of the crash is known prior to the dig a lot of the questions are already answered. It is a matter of co operation and a willingness to learn from those with experience. I do not approve of even greater requirements and hate it when new qualifications are introduced into an area where few problems exist.

As for JDK asking about how to keep out the less savoury characters, I just do not believe any official ruling will help. No one has the resources to place a gaurd on the many sites to prevent scrap dealers, souvenir seekers and Nighthawks with metal detectors from taking away items and the market in resale of bits /coins/jewellery etc is not illegal. In fact the aviation bits market is a fraction of what is on sale ,loads of coins of which many are forged are on the open market.

Cees , what has been accomplished has been a torrent of posts from people with a common interest in aviation history. I have seldom read such a discussion which has managed to tread the tricky path of the internet superhighway without having the all to common verbal pile up with resultant mental injuries.

Thanks to all who have added to this thread and brought out in public a lot of background to a hobby which seems to have been a mystery pastime to those who have never encountered Wreckology.
