I was amused that Red Bull has just sent me an invite to buy tickets for this event. They have me on the database from the first Longleat free ticket draw. Why am I amused?
Well it proves that they have no concept of the idea of public roads which can be used by pedestrians or just the fact that the River Thames is a rather large area with plenty of public vantage points.

While the general public seem surprised that Mr Jackson knows about avaition matters, it is no surprise to classic aviation enthusiasts. He did an excellent job bringing the LOTR trilogy to the screen despite early concerns from many fans. The same considered approach will be applied to the Dambusters film.

Nashio , I understand that you are frustrated at the situation. Just try and spend some time speaking to the volunteers at the local aviation museums. I have met some wonderful people this way,you will learn a lot and be given the chance to help with preservation . Its much more pleasant than hitting your head on a brick wall.

Nashio , I realise that you have every good intention but sometimes you have to take being rejected and shift your enthusiasm to somewhere else.Surely there are existing museums in your area who would welcome help. Life is too short to waste time after a rejection like that and I know of plenty of examples where owners just leave historic items to rot,it is their choice. So put your energy into a place where enthusiasts are active.

    Coventry timewarp

Mention of the Heron makes me recall the adverts in the back of Flight International when Shackleton Aviation were based at Coventry. The present line up of based older aircraft types would have been for sale by them way back in the sixties.

One of the former owners of RP is a current CAA official and deals with the issue of AOCs so I am certain that all the paperwork is 100 percent correct !

Was this the one hung outside Leicester square cinema to promote the film Shout at the Devil? I had a big shock when I saw that , and no camera.

For many years curious people have gone looking inside places without permission, with the website mentioned the only thing new is that they publish the results. There is no evidence of theft .and in a lot of cases the vandals went before.
As a former member of the armed forces I am pleased that the site highlights the poor security at many places,I used to hate the pointless patrols on some of the large bases when we all knew that anyone could get onto the base easily at the back. The authorities were just putting on a front gate show for the public. Its all part of the welcome new trend to expose the bull####. A place should be secure not just a few mobile patrols. If a jobs worth doing its worth doing well.

The early pics of nose art will not make a big difference in my view, the official press launch reaches far more people than a few internet specialist sites.
The really important fact is that despite all sorts of pressures on finances we still have a unique RAF heritage flight in the Uk with support from many areas.

I never take for granted all the work both paid and unpaid, physical and mental which goes into keeeping our heritage in the air, well done all concerned.

Ohhh..I envy you, I looked into this a year ago , placed a deposit and having got the only book about learning to fly one I realised that I could not go ahead. This was only due to the fact that in my area of North Scotland there were no instructors. The company kindly refunded my deposit when I explained why.

I was astonished to see how much was stored, it is a dream many of us have had, the biplane in a barn, untouched.Especially because I have travelled many miles in the uk following up rumours and always arriving to be told
“To late mate, they took the bits to the scrapyard a few months ago”
    well something along those lines.

Certainly an impressive rebuild, well done.

Garry you are not correct. Exposed high ground wrecks have mostly reduced in size of remains over the last 50 years. Not just the few that have had official recoveries carried out. The mid Wales P 38 is one example, Great Carrs Halifax another, Lanc in the Monadliths.

What ever I write, you will still stick to your own view. And I will continue to say that as much as possible needs to be recovered and put into safe keeping, yielding parts for rebuilds, static or flying and display cases. Recover, conserve and display, tell the story of the crew,, the parts bring the story to greater life.
