Looking at the web page the news on the Canberra is good, basically not a project which has been shelved…

The web page forum of VTTS does have some useful posts from people actually involved with engineering and does mention the frustration of having misleading and incorrect posts appearing on other forums in particular UKAR.
Wiki has a long referenced entry for this type which reveals a variety of factors including tumbling and Bell fudging the performance to get acceptance..

There is a STIGma attached to posts like that Tony.
Great articles thanks Daniel, lots of detail and good pics.
Happy memories of spotting K 9942 at agricultural shows when it was a travelling exhibit.Should put that in the unexpected sightings thread!
I saw this set of panels on display at the Hendon museum many years ago,not sure if they are still there.
Seems that big schemes looking for funding make grand promises which sometimes never happen. The bigger the idea the more likely funding happens.
Before you get sidetracked by the Swift perhaps I can summarise the way the internet now seems to work.
A question is asked and responses come in, some of these are very clearly stating facts and some offer opinions. There are in the UKAR thread, long as it is a number of facts repeated and then submerged under reposts of opinions which seek to obscure facts and seem to have an agenda of dislike against the operators of the Vulcan. This has gone on for years and sadly even though flying has finished for 558 the critics ARE STILL HAMMERING AWAY. Why do they do this?
So my advice is to drop the subject here, theres no point in getting riled up and creating ill feeling when facts are around but ignored . If you have a real legal aspect to take issue with why not deal directly with the owners? What is to be gained by posting here? Nothing .
3,552 comments on the subject here http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67440 and as usual some accurate reporting swamped by endless speculation and accusations.
Nothing nasty regarding the move, the article explains why..

As for wartime stol, both the Auster and Piper Cub could work in small fields provided there were not trees on approach climb out and other liasion types as well.
I also miss the survivors list but have a theory why its been dropped. It takes too much time to maintain a database which is considered accurate enough? Sure they could do a copy and paste job from Wiki but those type of sources lag behind.
Scary account Peter, I suppose youngsters think of souvenirs first and taking cover second!
my latest unexpected encounter which has just emerged from the memory cells…
I was half way thru my shift in the runway caravan at Linton On Ouse, pretty normal day with Jet Provosts coming and going, scanning them as they lined up checking for any problems, making sure they had gear down on final approach, being very careful about this because sometimes the instructors would then retract the gear and keep descending to check we were paying attention, once below a certain height we fired off a red very flare and they overshot.
My radio was tuned to local tower frequency and a few miles out on approach i saw a strange shape getting larger, the week before I had seen the same shape resting on Lake Windermere, it was Sunderland GBJHS heading back to base down South. No radio call from the Sunderland as he stayed on approach frequency.
It kept on coming and I cursed the lack of camera as the beautiful flying machine whispered over the runway centreline at about 100 feet. The instructor in the Jet Provost which had just landed was not impressed and complained”What the hell was that”
Some people are never happy, I was on cloud nine, the only time I ever saw the Sunderland flying.
Hello Dave, without doubt the Vintage Wings on line series of articles is the best web collection and your contributions are included. I recall the vist of OO-SOT the Lysander from Belgium to my RAF Linton on Ouse base. We were told the pilot was often challenged regarding the handling. He had a Cessna 172 chase plane which gave air traffic a surprise as we only had the Lysander booked in. One of the highlights of my time in the runway caravan was seeing it land(third in line behind the Vulcan i overshot and the Sunderland)
