John, good points and I fear the same is happening with airworthy older aircraft.
There were many pivotal moments on the road to allied victory in WW 2 which required selfless acts and sacrifice, the Battle of Britain period of air combat is one. Recognition of the many varieties of racial origin and gender diversity is to be welcomed not scoffed at. In peacetime which was won by many it is important to allow for diversity in our modern society. To pick on groups and blame them for current difficult times in Europe and near continents is to risk re igniting the very embers which fascist governments fanned into war as the peace movements of the 1930s were extinguished.
So this has me puzzled…..Woodford is potentially looking to restore the Bruntingthorpe example while the MOSI complete example is looking for a new home in the near future? The RAFM has already said they now have a policy of loaning aircraft. Is the Woodford plan to put a Shackleton under cover?
On my few visits to Hendon I have always been sad to note the abscence of information about the history of many of the airframes shown in front of them. They give no credit to the efforts of the many who saved them and leave most of the public poorly informed about preservation. Yes I know the info is all there on line but thats no use to a casual visitor.
Sterling work..well done…
Interesting that many share a concern about the overuse of electronic displays and gimmicks. I share the concern about this. There is a trend in how people behave at places and events. They are seduced by the novelty of smartphones and tablets and as a result can miss the reality around them. If any from the museum/location read these forums i hope they can keep in mind that the equipment and people (who gave time and lives) are what need highlighting. In practical terms highlighting actually can be taken as using a non destructive form of lighting.
The changes are in progress and not finished, perhaps it is fair to let the plans settle in. I like the idea of exhibits of aircraft size move across the Uk and even overseas. The RAF museum should not be considered in isolation in the Uk,there was a time in the 1960s when very few museums had displays of aircraft and artefacts. In fact the RAF museum was overwhelmed with donations ,turned items down, and as a result other places became better places to view certain aspects in detail such as the displays at Newark ,Doncaster,East Kirkby,Kent Bof B museum,Duxford.
As for young people not being interested I think that is not 100 percent true, many play games with graphics showing air battles and take part in re enactment groups, join cadets and later the regular forces.
We are fortunate(at the moment) to have a very active Uk museum scene and changing displays do help get items out of storage.
Good use of the higher vantage point.
Although I could not make the gathering I will add my thanks and as Janie says being an ex cadet the Chipmunk has a special place in my heart.
As cadets we could never expect to fly a Spitfire so this was the next best to fly in, the fact it has a stick and smells so military piston,is agile and had wing roundels was enough!

Lancaster House…..https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancaster_House
When seen in sections on the trailer it reminds me of Star Wars props, certainly a unique design and like the DC3 hard to replace. Good effort all round to secure this one.
Just ensure that after work has been carried out on your aircraft a careful check is made by you as owner or user…

A good friend of mine,ex RAF airframe mech, has just quit a light aviation repair shop job in the Uk after two weeks. The owner of the facility cut every corner to save time and money including instruction to wire brush corroded plugs instead of putting in new ones. He had a store of unlabled salvaged parts which were used to fix up aircraft in for repair and service. The owners of the assorted Gardan Horizions,Cessnas,Pa 28s etc must be clueless about what they were paying for.
So it is sad but no surprise to see the earlier Q6 work.
seems to be a lot more in my copy, perhaps some pages fell out of yours…..
