Lakes Lightnings has ladders – BUT NOT FOR SALE!

    Greetings All,

We at ‘Lakes Lightnings’ have ladders for F1/F1a variant, F3/F6/F53 variant and TBird variant.

We’ve already offered folks to ‘BORROW’ them to make up templates or to just have photos and measurements.

The logistics of moving these large items to and from is there.

We are keen to help out anyones Lightning project but, YOU have to do the leg work … not us….. as some have intimated previously! 🙁

Each variant of ladders has different hooks which fit into the fuse recesses. They are not standard across the fleet!

Glad to help ….. Neil & Heather, ‘Lakes Lightnings’

Message from the owners of XS897 (aka XP765)

    Message from the owners.

We at ‘Lakes Lightnings’ own this lovely machine which is on a 10 year loan to 29 Sqn and the photos used in the 9minute long 29 sqn produced slideshow are made up of a miriad of photos from lots of contributors to which we are all grateful indeed.

Should anyone want to split a Lightning for a move, bearing in mind that XM173 is up for Sale out there, then please PM us here and we can provide you with boundless pictures of Lightnings being stripped down like an Airfix kit assisting you in how to do it whereas, F1a XM172 was moved as a wide load with wintips cut off outboard of the main undercarriage whereas, T5 XS420 was cut down just outboard of the fuse making it a normal width load!.

It was hard work and good fun with plenty of blood and sweat with not many tears thank goodness!

The final outcome of XS897 (aka XP765) is superb as we all agree so, just to reiterate, well done OC 29 and his team for a splendid job very well done.

She went up for auction on the E site but nobody was interested!

She went up for auction on that E site after my posting of its ‘availability’ was removed from this site along with a HS748 nose too!

I tried to give it wide publicity but alas, nobody stepped up to the plate so they both had to go from Millom site ASAP by order of the liquidator!

Both ‘Old Bob’ and 298 went a local scrap dealer who cleared them from site pronto as required.

I have her tail boom numbers for posterity….it was a VERY SAD day believe me after all the effort I went to get them for Millom in the first place!!!

We saved what we could! …Good Show all round!

Wanted Hunter T7 glass and nose

    Greetings all,

‘Lakes Lightnings’ have recently ‘aquired’ Hunter T7 XL609 cockpit from the E site!

We are now looking out for a T7 canopy, the front 4 screens and any part of the nose to extend it to original length.

Our plan is to have it as a empty, externally pleasing complete nose.

Our plan was to have T birds of each of our main types, which we now have….
Harrier T4/Lightning T55/ Hunter T7 all up in The Lakes.

We are also looking out for a JP4 CWP (XS181) and some Canberra instrumentation for WK122.

The Sukhoi 7 burnt out nose from Robertsbridge joins us ‘up’t north’ next week.
