The scale is correct, and it’s actually leaving Pompey, unless they are going to move the Spinnaker Tower to the Isle of Wight! Also Chinooks already deploy aboard RN carriers as required (Ark Royal/Al Faw) so it’s just a continuation of existing capability
Oh yeah
As for the Chinooks, realise they operate now, was making the observation that its an interesting picture to create now, not been seen before and is certainly aimed at and Army/AF audience….
I take it you’ve never actually seen the Avenger II.
Er yes…

and now the F/A XX

Well I can see the distinct similarities…
So essential an RFA Argus? Real shame it didn’t happen, she has her limitations but has been a real workhorse in the RN. Been used for transort, Medvac, LPH, Training….
Did 50% of the money go on those publicity pictures? Like the subtle use of chinnoks to underline its purple credentials!
Nice all the same, the shot of it coming into Pompey is nice, anyone checked that the scale is correct……?
I think someone dusted off the Avenger II plans….
No C-130J production slots are available in the near future IIRC (2012-13 earliest I beleive). As for any AAR capability, by the time we could get have it, the FSTA contract would have made it obsolete by its terms (FSTA A330 being the only RAF/MOD operated tanker aircraft).
Your kidding me? They agreed to have only FSTA as the only tanker as part of a legally binding agreement? Knobs, utter knobs!

good article with some video, not the actual CVF as yet.
I’m not to sure about the Harvest hawk upgrade maybe could of been useful for the kind of big ops that are going on just now. Can we spare a transport cause i think pretty much once they put the kit on it there will be high demand for convoy protection etc the kit won’t come off in a hurry.
Does this upgrade have any guns? I read about hellfire and some other missile
It’s a pack that can be used with the Herk still in its original role – in the USMC they will still be able to carry out their tanker/transport role (how multi-role is that!!!??) It has a 30mm gun on a pallet that fits in one of the side doors and Hellfire capability. For a big op having that to aid top cover would be very useful.
I was talking about the look on the politician/treasury officials faces not the the ship.
So was I! Imagine the look on his face as the Admiral unfurls the plans on his desk…. probably the same face when he was shown the final plans for CVF!
I’d love to see that.
“now Prime Minister, I know you said no to half the Daring order but would you take a look at this….”
As this appears to be turning into a UK air assets in Afghan thread….
Saw in AFM the Harvest Hawk system the USMC are acquiring. With rumours abound that the MOD is going to lease or purchase 6 C130Js would a buy of two or three Harvest Hawk kits be a useful addition to the UK capabilities? A sort of spectre on the cheap?
But a proper army and navy take centuries….
12 by the way , though talks are ongoing for all 22 airframes, and even some of the AH7s perhaps later.
The Lynx AH9 is having an upgarde to AH9A (or T as some articles call it) standard which has LHTEC CTS800-4N engines (same as wildcat)which will give 30 odd more percent power and at least a quater better fuel economy. Its also getting some def aid stuff.
I’m sorry i’ll say that again….
Swerve, you MEAN patrick o’brian was stretching reality when he had HMS Suprise in constant service for 30 odd years? :p
