WM224 at East Midlands Aeropark? I think this is the one that was in front of a pub for a while.
Wasn’t it shoved outside so that they could make room for corporate/management-type away days?

I take modern-ish attitudes about some of these men being b@stards with a grain of salt. They were undoubtedly (and unashamedly) purpose driven, egotistical and demanding, but to survive and thrive in the war, I suppose you’d have to be.
But the prevailing opinion that Bader.(and I suppose, Yeager, Gibson, Montgomery, Patton, MacArthur, etc.) were terrible people probably says more about today’s coddled, risk adverse, “must not offend” society than it does about their ability to lead young men in life or death situations.”
Absolute tosh. Yet another attempt to re-write history. My dad was a National Serviceman in the early ‘fifties and met Bader a number of times. His opinion was that he was an arrogant, rude *rse. And I was lucky to meet people who flew with Johnnie Johnson: they too described him as an arrogant *rse. Not all were, but to try and pretend that opinions formed 70 or more years ago are “today’s coddled, risk averse” whatever just smacks of old-fart snowflakes getting offended about things that they just decided to get upset about.
God that’s depressing: I saw it fly a few times and now that’s all that’s left.
I seem to recall that John Farley got a MiG-29 flight when they visited back in the 1980s.
It would seem that these aircraft were crewed by personnel from the 60th TCW. Other types on loan to the RAE (F-86A for example) were flown by RAF pilots so it seems to have varied, depending on loan agreement.
For info the movement of the two C-82As is as follows:
45-57740; 60th Troop Carrier Wing (Medium), Rhein-Main; 60th TCW (M) Farnborough 05Dec51; to 85th Air Depot Wing Erding 17Nov52
45-57784; 60th Troop Carrier Wing (Medium), Rhein-Main; 60th TCW (M) Farnborough 13Aug51; to 85th Air Depot Wing Erding 19Nov51

Run of the mill antique car collectors are not rushing headlong into conversions.”
“Run of the mill antique car collectors”. First world issues eh? Electric is a great way to go: if a Warner is Ok in place of a Le Rhone, then why not electric?
And is Jay Leno as “Run of the mill antique car collector”? He has EV conversions already.
So Prop Strike: let us know where we donate to your fund-raiser. Glad to hear you’re on it because talk is cheap and non-productive.
Put your money where your mouth is and stop whining?
Needy ain’t ya?
Well this turned into a tantrum pretty quick. Must be a record.
Now they can move on to another “100%” theory and fund the next holiday.
Where are the originals then?

Re Sabrejets comment, in what way is it too late for the various Spitfires and Mustangs ? What would have been the destiny of those remains, had they not been associated with a recreated airframe ?”
This I’m afraid is what we usually see when questioning where the originals went. So my question to you would be: where are the originals then? They’d have been recovered and conserved. Do they still exist? Despite the plethora of replica Mustangs, Spitfires et al, TV959 is thus far the only example of the acknowledgement of extant replica and original.
