    Clio,

I certainly took no offence: I hope we may have been of assistance.

The Manston crash, if I recall correctly, involved a Mosquito which crashed into the car parking area. It was at the north end of what used to be called the LALA (grass strip).

Amid the dreadful news and abysmal news reporting, the news on XH558 is indeed a ray of sunlight.

    Pamela,

I doubt there’s anything in the AIR 2 file (but I am always prepared to be proved wrong). Detailed accident reports are usually in AVIA or BT files.

However all is not lost: email the RAF Museum and they’ll send you the accident card (AM1180 I think), as well as the aircraft’s movement card.

    Good luck!

FSI used Sabres as targets and as target tugs. Al Letcher’s Vampires never had anything to do with these activities.

    Same airfield, different activity.

    ‘tow targets’?

Private Mk.3 owned by Al Letcher; I think (John?) Martin also owned a Mojave Vampire? Both definitely not towed or towing however.

Labour MP from Manchester has called for all displays to take place over the sea; he obviously hasn’t seen the floatilla of boats moored along the display line at such events, nor has he grasped that placing the A/C so far away from the public to assure their safety, will almost certainly mean that the display wont be seen by anyone.

I’d better take my binoculars next time I go to RIAT then…

Put in prospective, this is the first air show crash to involve deaths, other than pilot and/or aircrew, since the Farnborough DH110 crash in 1952, 63 years ago.

This is forgetting the unfortunate events at Ramstein Air Base, invoving the Frecce Tricolour, many years ago. My condolences to those involved, and I’m amazed that the pilot survived.

…and the Lviv Sukhoi, and a number of others. It does sadly happen from time to time, and in the UK we do have sensible guidelines and have been fortunate.

It’s a dreadful occurrence, but as said many times, let’s try to take it easy and see how it pans out.

Are you high? The cover of that book alone reveals the sort of puerile garbage it will almost certainly contain. Wet-brained idiots thought The Da Vinci Code revealed the inner workings of the Catholic church, so I guess people are pathologically drawn in by anything that graces the pages of a book. Or, to put it another way, conspiracy theorists generally take pride in questioning mainstream sources (wake up sheeple!), but then pay well over the odds for, in this case, potted Nazi fan fiction, tickets for lectures and tacky merchandise. I could set myself up as an ‘independent UFO researcher’ tomorrow and never go hungry.

I assumed it was said tongue in cheek?

Mind you, in a previous life I engaged in a spot of crop circle making, and you should hear the garbage I’ve heard spoken about that – including a great deal of ‘bright light’ and ‘strange noises, like the sound of a thousand jets’ which supposedly accompanied one rather famous (and silent, apart from the odd belch and giggle) formation we did.

“It’s all a conspiracy and anyone who denies it, is in on the conspiracy” is the kind of familiar rant, and one which seems to have accompanied this latest effort, as well as our many crop circles.

Well no it’s not a conspiracy – just a bunch of drunk country lads having a laugh and continuing to laugh at the muppets who think it’s a conspiracy!

All of this tripe works on the premise that it’s FAR easier to prove that something did happen, than to prove it didn’t. Then it’s a slippery slope to the “Lack of information = conspiracy” and a book deal. Still, people make money out of it. So I don’t even wonder why people do it now.

A better summation would be ‘Lack of information + gullible people = $$$’.

Possibly a gull getting out of the way, but it does look like it.

This is as ‘good’ as source as any….

In a nutshell, global conspiracy, Nazi ‘Wunderwaffe’, a diappeared SS General (Kammler) and a lot of seemingly odd remnants. Oh and rumours of a weird device called ‘Die Glocke’ or ‘ The Bell’ which seems to have had nasty side effects on anyone nearby…….

Just looked at one of the reviews:

“Conspiracy theory nonsense: riddled with factual errors, hearsay, and ignores dead ends to instead conflate them with some other part of “the story” to keep the narrative going. Easier to face facts that there really is no conspiracy, mostly it was just vapourware and wishful thinking!”

I didn’t realise that this sort of garbage was around. Sadly I can’t erase my annoyance now that I know.

“There is a TV documentary about Nazi UFOs that comes up on Freeview channels from time to time. Don’t be put off by the title – it’s worth watching and makes some interesting claims that are supported by some convincing evidence. Apparently they had a R&D site hidden underground near Pilsen that MAY have experimented with electro-magnetic propulsion.”

    …or may not.

    Gotta love these stories.

    Or not.
