This is as ‘good’ as source as any….

In a nutshell, global conspiracy, Nazi ‘Wunderwaffe’, a diappeared SS General (Kammler) and a lot of seemingly odd remnants. Oh and rumours of a weird device called ‘Die Glocke’ or ‘ The Bell’ which seems to have had nasty side effects on anyone nearby…….
Bought the book (Bob Dorr’s novel): a great story akin to Clive Cussler. However I did worry that some might not recognise it as a work of fiction…
Not always: Sqns with Flights often allotted A to M for ‘A’ Flight machines and N to Z (or similar) for ‘B’ Flight. As aircraft were lost, replacements would then take over the missing letters. So in time, the allocation would look rather random.
But not always the case!
Every time I wonder what I’d REALLY like to see at RIAT, I’m lost for ideas: here is No.1 on the list!
RAE – Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough. Test fit of some sort?
Is the info straight from the record card? It’s possibly a transcription error (on the card or on the secondary source it (may have?) come from).
Alternately, were 66 and 72 collocated at the time? Might have borrowed this aircraft from a squadron on the same stn/wg?
…”The local project?”
Western Daily Press has it as B1807 (G-EAVX?).
Ford Pilot? I think Ford had the rights on ‘V8’ until the 50s (hence FIAT built to ‘8V’ (Otto Vu) etc).
Why matt then, but not on the BH 1981 shots? I recall her as gloss (ish), but certainly not gloss in the Dux photos.
It’s interesting that Moose was repainted from a glossy finish into a matt finish for the film, but still in the incorrect colour: were the five P-51s repainted at different locations?
Clearly the colour in the line-up (and others from the ‘film’ period) show her to be matt finish, and to my eyes the same colour (similar then) to one of the others. But then when one looks at the lineup, they all look slightly different in colour/tone. Deliberate maybe?
The background to the painting of Candyman/Moose was explained by Paul Coggan in a Warbirds Wordwide special called Mustangs Worldwide if you can find a copy.
Here are a couple of photos I took during the filming of Memphis Belle. Candyman/Moose is a different colour from its brethren.

‘221 in the last photo looks to be the same colour as the final aircraft in the lineup (‘4727..’)?
Nice one: I think I have a shot of it at Manston or Bentwaters somewhere too.
An older exhibit, but one that I’ve not paid much attention to previously is this 20mm Type 38 Flak Gun.
Couldn’t resist posting one of ‘171 in earlier days:

I didn’t notice the dog either!
:highly_amused:
Thanks for that Sabrejet.
Oborne is a couple of miles to the east of Sherborne. The Hurricane crashed in Oborne Road on the outskirts of Sherborne. I will arrange to have the glazing taken out of our store so that I can tell you more. It won’t be for a few days though.
I would be interested in the details and photograph of O’Callaghan – thanks for the offer. I will see if anybody, locally, knows any more.
I have only just started looking into this aspect of Sherborne’s history and it will be interesting to see what comes to light. I know the Museum also has some minute fragments said to be from the crash site of an He 111 which was shot down by a Beaufighter and crashed at Oborne on the 7th May 1941.
You have a PM.
Aircraft was Anson I s/n MK890.
The aircraft crashed on a night training flight in the early hours of 13th, Pilot W/O Russell, Nav P/O Lovatt, and Navigators under instruction P/O Margrie, P/O Langston, P/O Tinkess and Sgt EG Williams killed.
Nice shots TJ!
Here are those I promised:
