    Hi Chaps and Chapessess

    I am the person selling the combat report. I appreciate and understand the comments and over the years i have seen various combat reports, some identical to this one and indeed have had doubts over the years had it not been from who i was given them by. However, the copies i have seen and studied do vary in colour and indentation to the ones i have and have a black mark where these ones do not. I know there are many experts out there and i indeed do not regard myself as an expert, although experienced in many years of collecting before copies tended to be commonplace especially in the RAF world.I also have many serious collectors who are experts who have seen these and majority confirm them as original not copies.
    Now having said all this !! ,,, as i state on ebay, unless you kept an item from the war at THE TIME, then nothing can be confirmed as 100% right.To be honest apart from the common items, the rare items i have in my collection almost all were given or purchased from WW2 veterans and have photographic evidence. BUT, there are some nasty people out there, 1 in particular who i condem who forges Log books. I unknowingly sold a photocopy of a log book to him and hey presto 2 years later i saw the “ORIGINAL” on Ebay. I inherited the real “ORIGINAL” when my Stirling Engineer Uncle sadly died.
    I have had 75% ebay messages stating it is 100% real and the others stating its fake. I have also had an offer of £450 as a buy it now.
    However owing to the fact that i do not want any ill feeling or for this to be copied, copied and copied again, I am going to withdraw it from Ebay and keep it in my collection. I am cofident that it is original and may be the one used to produce the copies. (which i doubt as the person who gave them to me was a real genuine veteran and collector. (I made a donation to St Dunstans as he did not want anything for them)
    I would just like to end in saying that forging items is so wrong unless openly a repro or copy and stated as being so. Third hand generation items and ageing will make collecting harder in the future and knowledge from us “Yodas” will be crucial. Happy landings

    If it works heres pics of combat reports. They are exactly the same as the, without doubt 100% combat reports i saw on my RAF museum tour with ray Funnel at Cardington. They were as right as the rotting Irvin jackets i saw piled up !
    One comment i have is that im sure many various reports were made in different batches at the time and storage creates various stages of colour fading. Over the years RAF stores, auctions and even film companies have sold on various RAF items. Indeed film companies as early as in WW2 were producing fake items for films, so it is impossible to confirm that these and indeed others are not fakes, but it is not easy to say they are not original either.
    I was in Sales/marketing at Aston Martin Lagonda in the 1980s and some cars were slightly different lengths,widths and specs and indeed all the ones I demonstrated/ drove all differed. Does that mean that all apart from 1 was a fake Aston Martin ?. As i state I have had these many years and were given them by a long term veteran/WW2 collector. He had had them years before that. Yes there are repros/fakes out there of almost all Ww2 memorabilia now and it is getting harder to compare right from wrong. Most of the time with these combat Reports I have seen at Whitwick/Shoreham, Bedford etc and the internet, there seems to be one link. If you have one, its original, if you dont then others are fakes !! I took this one off after valid comments and will research the issue even though i know that originals as well as fakes are out there. A percentage must be right.As i say unless you are a time lord or actually printed and wrote them out during the Battle of Britain and have kept them under lock and key since, you will never know and will always have that eliment of doubt,,,,Is it original !?

    I hear what you say. The terminology does vary from pilot to pilot and their location in the Uk and Commonwealth and education though and the Adjutants typing is not always (like mine!) correct as they had a lot to type out and may have even had bombs wizzing around !

    As for collecting, yes it isnt easy and i am just grateful most of my nicer items, I brought long ago and with the help of others out there the knowledge can be gained. These combat reports and other rare paperwork are very hard to tell and indeed as we have seen, make interesting battle ! Is it isnt it !. Years ago some of the original german badge machines from WW2 were found and once again years later were producing German Badges ! The producers were then placing the badges,iron crosses etc into cows urine and in the cloth badge side tanks full of moths, to “age” the item. Most of my collection was purchased or given to me by veterans or veteran families or good respectabe dealers. If i get doubles or post war items, i sell them and the money goes back into my collection, unless i know the person behind the item or it was given to me, then it will never get sold.

    Ray funnel used a chemical in a room at Cardington and i returned later where he informed me a date range of 20 years before and 10 years after ww2 = 1919-1955.Not quite as narrow margin as i was expecting. The carbon test was done because having heard of such copies being produced after my initial visit to him years earlier,i wanted advise. From one of the replies and as i have stated earlier, if you have a combat report its original, if others have then there fakes !. Ray Funnel was an amazing and nice chap. What the RAF museum had in reserve then was incredible but badly stored, as the Irvins i mentioned earlier. I saw literally 100s of log books piled up and a superb large flying model of the R100 airship. wonder where that is now ? When the RAF reserve moved to Henlow, i witnessed many skips full of aluminium, paper and cloth.Ray had died before then and i think he would have turned in his grave.

    I have an original German scwimmveste (or however you spell it !) belonging to Wolfgang Teumer whose ME-109 is at RAF Hendon. It was stuck in an RAF pilots footlocker until he gave it to me 8 years ago. He got it from Teumer at Manston. So must be a fake !!!,Teumer must have made it between getting out of the 109 and being out of the plane !.
    Apologies for the above sentence, but one of the negative points of collecting is some people enjoy knocking any items that are unique down. The positive side is like most of you on this forum, there are those that can give valid advise and interesting views that can make you look at things in your collection in a broader way, rather like detective work !. I was selling one of my Reports on ebay to invest in a tour to visit USAAF veterans in the States.Thats the best collecting in the world, talking to the people that were there while we still can.

    I have now decided that the whole world must be fake and that tunnel vision is very popular. I am and have been a serious collector for many years and some of the comments are valid and some open the mind. For people to say an item like this where so much time and money must have gone into it is 100% fake amazes me.What a sad loser the person must have been to produce these IF they are fakes, in the first place. To not research or look at a Johnny Kent signature before you “Forge” his signature is insane as forging it in the first place.As I have stated before, I am happy with them as much as the other people out there are happy with their “Originals” Nothing can be confirmed as 100% original or 100% fake.Those of you out there with what you think are fakes, how can you tell? just because someone or a group of people have told you they are ? I have a plane to catch.
