I’m not sure of your location, but most medium to large farmers have their own weigh bridges now days, always worth an ask if the gates are open.

On that sort of subject, anyone know what restrictions there are on widths of trailers and if the load can extend beyond the sides of the trailer?

I believe 2.9M is the legal limit without a movement order/ escorting; I seem to recall about 1M overhang to the rear, and up to the 2.9M on the sides suitably attired with warning triangles and running lights for night time.

It’s worth looking at whether you are insured for trailer work , and also the gross weight of the combination, as many vehicles have very poor towing capacities.

A very nice display Mike; was the spade grip mag alloy and has dissolved, or is it in a safety deposit box? would look good next to my display at Damyns Hall, I was thinking about doing a similar display, albeit on a much smaller scale to mark the 75th.

Thanks for that, have read up on him a bit, but can’t see an explanation as to why he carried the saint logo, perhaps Andy S knows, as I did see a mention of him with regards to the search for Sgt Ellis

Hopefully not too far off topic, (new draconian forum rules notwithstanding) but this has been bugging me all week, in one of the older TV programmes I saw a fleeting glimpse of a BoB pilot with the “saint” emblem on his Mae West, something I remember, but don’t! I’ve tried googling all names relating to the character, and looked on the BoB pilots list, but am still non the wiser; please put me out of my misery, who is he?

I can echo only what has been said, especially with regard to his sense of humour.

Apparently not the first to confuse the U/C selector with the throttle……

General Discussion is leaking! I thought we were talking about plastic Spitfires?

That’s the left side of the stage; never saw much more than a glimpse of the other replica, (on the right hand side of the stage) which is fibreglass… leaks plugged hopefully!

I would imagine that Terry A is quite pleased with the BBC TV coverage, biased as it is to the left! Hopefully he hasn’t fallen foul of the low emissions charge….

The Spitfire project will be there again, thoroughly enjoyed last year, (apart from the overnight incarceration in a tent) might have to sort out alternative sleeping arrangements…

I didn’t realise Mike was still “dragging one around” thought that had ended with the sale of the RBL replica that he built.

Obviously I’m prepared to be proven wrong but I think there is only the choice of two, (when it comes to them actually turning up on the day) those being Simply Spitfire, and the Lytham St Annes ; both have internet pages and or Facebook.

I haven’t been yet, although I follow them on facebook, and yes they do post pictures of the exhibits, I would think they are a bit tight on space, but would much rather go to a museum that was rammed, rather than an art gallery “installation” type of modern display; one mans piece of junk is another mans piece of history…….

We are going to use the money to make a visit to Mons on the centenary of the battle and also to help with the trips we make each year.”

Over a quarter of a million pounds will buy many years worth of annual trips to Belgium.

Do I detect an air of sarcasm in that last quote?
