Have to be honest, I’m not a proper spotter, can’t remember half the serial numbers, even some of my favorites, but it didn’t take too long to look at who was involved, and with what, and put the abbreviations to the relevant groups / items.

Rule of thumb with regards to loaned / stored items (as has been said) get it in writing; I used to be aquisitions / disposal officer (it was a small museum, and a registered charity, so obviously a grandiose title was the order of the day) we had an Allis Chalmers tractor left with us for about 10 years, not on loan or gifted, and the chap was nowhere to be found, “duty of care” notwithstanding, how can you track down someone who doesn’t want to be found, (for whatever reason) but on the same note if he were to turn up (to claim it ) do you bill him for safe storage?

Storage and Haulage, these are the watch words; neither are cheap and people disappear fast when either are mentioned.

Hi Mike, it was in the reading of the reply that I saw a different view, maybe even playful; this is the basic problem with the internet, we can’t easily impart the feeling that have in our heads into a typed word or sentence, I personally don’t use the emocion things, and as a result can fall into the same category, of being misunderstood (oh lord please don’t let me be).

As for the general feeling that there is a cliqué on this forum, that’s probably true, as some have been members since 2000, much longer than me, and of course many knew each other before becoming forum members; I’m not part of that cliqué, and it doesn’t bother me, it’s worth remembering that many forum members don’t post at all some rarely, but they read it all the same.

Some members have more questions than answers, some know much more than they let on, the forum needs both, it’s inevitable that those in the know are sometimes economical with their replies, having been asked the same question many times over.

Probably showing my ignorance here, but Mike D’s Spitfire display has two flap levers fitted; not seen that before.

“It doesnt add any aviation credibility at all ! “

I beg to differ, all Jaguar bring to the table is the ID, possibly not even the actual plate, and the relevance, is that both the classic / vintage A/C industry and the classic / vintage car industry work within each of their respective governing bodies guidelines; I’m sure there are many differences as well as similarities, but essentially once declared a new build (unless a one off kit) the manufacturer must comply with the regulations, the difference being that Jaguar are still going whereas Supermarine are not…… but if they were, and chose to endorse / support “Airframe Assemblies” by naming them a sub-contractor, new build Spitfires could once again grace our skies.

This isn’t really Historic Aviation !

I’m glad somebody felt the need to point out that one of the more interesting recent discussions, shouldn’t actually be discussed here; to lend some aviation credibility,

“Although there is nothing to stop you building/buying a bodyshell and building a ‘dataplate’ period car – but that is a whole different can of worms and no-one is expecting the new lightweights to suddenly develop a new data plate”

this really is the case for the “rebuilding” of historic A/C summed up.
