Looking at the link above, there appear to be both cowled and uncowled versions; you live and learn!

I was going to say perhaps the buy one get one free promo has ended….but was this ever a flier, as the stearman engine isn’t cowled is it?

I think it is venturing onto unsafe ground to positively identify A/C by easily removable items such as radio masts or exhaust stubs; it is true that film production companies still don’t return A/C to their pre filming condition (usually paying the owners to do this themselves) but the time period between the filming and subsequent photos is too great to presume that changes didn’t take place.

Not terribly au fait with Hurricanes, but the “22” is longer than the “III”, aren’t the cowlings longer as well? ( or was the longer engine accommodated in the same space)

To be fair Snafu anything that is owned and held legally really need not be notified to the police, they should( if the need arose) be able to view the weapons and the respective paperwork, simply by knocking on (as opposed to knocking down) the door, and asking the owner to see the collection in order to verify that they are either deactivated, (correctly) or exempt from licensing as per the obsolete calibre weapons list; however there does seem to be a bit of a problem with the communication on the last issue, (as in the case that Junk Collector highlighted) not everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet on this one, and even more bizarrely the 450/577 (snider) is on the list, but manufacture of the cartridge (USA) only stopped about 10 years ago, hardly obsolete!

With regard to the quantity of similar weapons, I guess it’s a collector thing; you and I might see too many Lee Enfields, the collectors amongst us will immediately spot the one(s) missing from the line up!

The logical extension of this impetus is paying passengers on B.17 or Catalina,(and others) which will be a shot in the arm for the operators.

That can only be good thing; sometimes in life, the knock on effect of changing the rules to allow someone with money to make even more money, is that someone with very little, can survive a little longer.

Yes quite a few bits of original frame there, but by the look of things none of them complete enough to “stand alone” and the new build looks more like a tailors dummy, made specifically to hang the original parts on but not actually to spec; (exemplified by frames 12 & 13 where the inner flange is missing) I particularly like the reverse fitted ASI in the brake pressure location!

I must confess to being perplexed by this cockpit build; every time I see it, it is slightly different, (as above with engine bearers attached) but never appears to have been finished off before painting, and the original sections (which look to be quite poor) are sort of incorporated in the build, and yet not!

What was the intention with the build? was it just an attempt to establish provenance, to sell it for big bucks (as seen a couple of years ago at the auction)

It’s that borough of Lambeth replica cockpit, (again) and a few miscellaneous bits; not sure of the origin of the engine though

If indeed it is still there!

I wonder how many of the type of tourist that visits the Orkneys would be interested in viewing a recovered warbird wing, or how many of us would make the trek up there to see it?

It may well have a wing ID plate.
