Buchon. It’s not a Messerschmitt. But it is a mess. And maybe then we could avoid the half-ar**d ‘combat’ sequences that necessarily show the public what a low-G and stately affair a dogfight was. Controversial, I know..

Harsh…..it might have been a better combat A/C than the original!

Well, only got asked that question half a dozen times in two days, so a result!

What a brilliant event, Have visited before (as a punter), but as an exhibitor, I have never felt more welcome (other than the first year at the Hendon BoB weekend)

Flying displays were excellent, but the (or one of the) Kent Spitfire (s) was outstanding, perhaps a bit late in the day on Sunday, as it was the usual mad rush to beat the traffic, which, in turn created the traffic!

Evenings entertainment was great a couple of free drinks as well; what more do you need?

Nice to see Mike D there, hats off to him for travelling down over 200 miles, and good to see the progress he’s making on the Anson; bit of a shame someone thought my Spitfire project was one of the engines from the Anson, but perhaps I should have made up a display board, that clearly states what it is and what it isn’t!

Good also to meet so many people; if I did meet any visiting forum members, I don’t think they said who they are (but then is it something you would want to mention?)

No pictures I’m afraid, as I used up most of the cameras memory trying to perfect panning shots of A/C some of which I missed completely, but you could at least hear the sound of the engine (s) however I believe another forum member does have some pictures.

“It’s likely the unauthorised user obtained the account password using a spoof email”.

and NOT as a result of our entire data base having been hacked, which resulted in endless messages to change your passwords! (albeit about a week after the problem was highlighted on national television)

I know we are a bit of a cookie lot, some cookie-er than others…… and who doesn’t get fed up fending off that old chestnut; “where’s the rest of it mate?” at every single event, or kipping in a damp tent….or queuing for the loos…. but I guess you either do, or you don’t.

What’s a ground running one worth?( to replace) labour to rebuild an engine to ground running must equal or exceed that for an airworthy example, given that far more machining and hand work is needed as a trade off for prohibitably expensive parts, and the repair of castings etc that must be reused for the same reason.

There’s a guy down in Kent, (Julian Hopper) who may be able to cast the brackets, normally it would require a pattern ( split into 2 halves) and about 5% larger to allow for shrinkage, and that is where the cost lays; it looks as though it could be milled from solid, but most machine shops these days are CNC and a CAD drawing would be needed (probably!)

Anyone see the documentary last week on one of the discovery channels?( probably a repeat) for me at least, there’s no doubting Rick Gillespie’s sincerity, but I suspect that like those that have gone before, he is digging in the wrong place, and is absolutely wedded to the idea that they crashed on that island, and as CD says, they do seem to be trying to fit known facts into that particular theory.

Thanks guys for those kind words; I now have the less than glamorous task of replacing all the cowling fasteners (about a hundred I think) having recently acquired a stash of original ones, don’t have any of the female sections though, and will have to make all the fiddly little ffffffffasteners by hand……..
