“Location Confusion We’ll meet by the tail of the Spitfire”

I seem to remember a couple of years ago, the plan was to meet in front of the Beau at noon, what seemed to be overlooked however, was that in front of the Beau was in fact a walkway, with constant pedestrian traffic, and that made it very difficult to spot fellow formites, as most of Duxford passed by….

I’m going on friday, did this for a good few years and had a great time, so heres hoping.

Tony, you could try to sand of each layer with a fine abrasive like 220 or 280; this is the technique I used to reveal the queens crown and the legend “by appointment” on xw541.

The second photo is wf145, clearly it has been chemically stripped by a previous owner, although it worked, I do think they were lucky that the stripper didn’t take the lot off!

“Winston Churchill speaking in parliament as Conservative Leader of the Opposition three days before the Parade, said he “deeply” regretted that “none of the Polish troops, and I must say this, who fought with us on a score of battlefields, who poured out their blood in the common cause, are not to be allowed to march in the Victory Parade.” He also said Poland was now “held in strict control by a Soviet-dominated government” and that “we, who went to war, ill-prepared, on her behalf, watch with sorrow the strange outcome of our endeavours”

As bizarre as that sounds, it did actually happen to me once! 2 items in an auction side by side, a nice one and a pup, came back after paying for said item to find it gone, but the pile of…. still there for me!

Mind you. With that in mind and with what we know now, with the help of you forum guys (and knowing that the mould is for a Spitfire MkIX so we can’t change that) if Stuart and his team have any queiries they’ll know where to come for advice. 😀

    Tony.

    Well it’s a mistake I would never have made…

    coz I never knew there was an A or a B scheme……..

Indeed, although the statement “nobody that works here has any interest in aviation” is telling.

Maybe his own words “in war there are no victors, only victims” would be a suitable epitaph.

One thing’s for sure, with several experts queing up to state that the top layer of paint exposed to the sun degrades first, the industry is in safe hands; who’d have thought it?

I’ve heard of canopies being used as cloches, but never an entire greenhouse; full details of this A/C are kept at Kew………..(gardens)
