Lets see.. an all new airframe allied to an all new engine being designed and built by a new company…or should we look at the development of the A310MRTT and the A330MRTT as a guide to what EADS can do in terms of evolution and development.
It might be good to look at how that programme has gone and use Boeing’s experience of the Italian and Japanese 767 tankers. One would assume, based on the experience that Boeing has in designing and developing tankers that these would have been problem free, however it has not been the case.
So looking at that then the chances of the KC-767 being late and over budget appears rather higher than that of the 330 being either…but none of us really knows…
nice opinion. I dont agree tho.
No-one is blind here though Hawkdriver and, believe it or not, you dont have to explain the cuts-culture that successive British governments have had towards its military!.
You said that CVF was going to be an expensive way to carry 12 fastjets implying that you know CVF is actually being built as we speak, but, that MoD wouldnt put planes on it as a cutback.
So, what you are saying, is that the UK MoD will scrap the Carrier Strike requirement whilst still building the carriers to do it?!. You say you are trying to teach us what?.
Even if the F-35B buy is scaled back, as widely reported, we can field a full CAW with half the oft-stated numbers to be ordered presently, plus maintain a training programme and even have enough of a reserve to cycle airframes or make-good attrition.
Not trying to teach anyone anything. No one here can teach anyone anything. What Im sayin is that its just so friggin sad to see one of the finest armed forces in the world get slowly strangled to death by tight fisted politicians with farcical budget cuts on the armed forces. With the way things have been since the 90s, Im sorry but I just cant see the UK making the commitmant nessesary for the major expansion of the FAA needed to make just one of these ships effective. Lord I hope Im wrong. I do. But theres just been no recent precedent. And having the 2nd ship equiped with cats and wires? Can anyone honestly think they UK would shell out to build up that infrastructure? Sorry, but 15 to 20 years of steady cuts has ginen me no room for optimism here.
I cant teach the blind. If you cant get my point….well…….maybe read the posts befor u answer..
I would love to hope you guys are right. But I havent seen Britain do anything but cut its armed forces to the bone for the last 15 years, and I dont believe they are going to bring it back up…………….I cant see them putting that kind of money out. Wish I was wrong. But these are the Brits…..if they can find a way to cut something…..they will!
OK OK….LPH then. It could easily operate ALOT more a/c…..but……..I have seen NOTHING in the last 15 years that would give me ANY shred of hope that the Brits would only have one sqdrn of RN fast jets. As for the RAF…….they would not mind at all discontinuing their shipboard deployments. So when/if these ships are delivered,…..dont look for them to be anything but much larger versions of what is already available……and best case at that.
But, at most, they will only operate 1 sqdrn (8 to 12 a/c) of V/STOL jets, 1 of helos, and a couple of AEW helos. That is their CV mode. I have a feeling they will be used more as an amphib.
These 2 Cvs (probably better to call them LPDs) will be an expensive way to take 8 to 12 fast jets into action.
Well….all I can say is…..join the USAF….work your way up to General, and have the policy changed. Otherwise……argue till ur blue in the face, but nothing will happen.
They should have gotten A400s. It is a much more capable airlifter, because its bigger, but not as big as a C-17 so its better than those.:D
How many pillgrims could you cram into a C-17?
British & French Futur CV…
Lovely to see Rafale on deck of British carrier:D
Nice….but…..a HORRIBLE waste of deck space.
Hope they are!
Why do they need C-17s?! The Hadj?????
You could say the same thing about the F-16s built in Europe.
The C-130H might well have been the best tactical airlifter in the 1960s and 1970s, but with today’s obese military it’s just too cramped. You simply can’t fit a Humvee in a Jeep-transporter.
Flexible and adaptable as the C-130 was, were it to remain the “the world’s best tactical airlifter” it should have been given a new, wider fuselage twenty years ago. Now it’s just too cramped.
As for replacing the C-5A… well, I guess that any large aeroplane spending most of it’s time u/s on the tarmac or in the hangar will do. Unless you absolutely, positively need something in your OrBat which you can’t rely on and have to rent An-124s for instead.
Do you honestly believe the C-130 CANT carry a Humvee?! You might want to check your facts.
