I’m thinkin the F1 had more power….better weapons systems……
Was just watching the story of the F-15 grounding on BBC “America”……..pretty informative…except…….they were showing wonderful video footage of an F-14 launching off a carrier. Nice.
ALL F-15s in USAF are now grounded till further notice….
Also, remember, had there been no Brit CVLs……then Clem would have ended up being a somewhat different ship. The French learned alot from operating Arromanches.
My dad HATED when guys did that in his plane! He started in F-100s, then went to A-7s and ended up flying F-16s.
Could the “Buc” operate off Clemeneau?
The Leclerc has been positioned at a much lower weight category than its contempories, such as the Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and Abrams. This nowadays has little benefit, but does limit its ability to use heavy armour. It isn’t really any harder to spot, and there is a lot of scepticism on the autoloader. It makes the life of the gunner harder, especially in the case of the autoloader failing. Also, with modern sighting devices, and overhead weapons systems, the loader can be very useful, keeping an eye out for bad guys, allowing the commander to focus on command tasks, and helping the gunner protect the vehicle. The Leclerc hasn’t done particularly well in competitions internationally, losing out mostly to the Leopard 2, not just on cost grounds, but on capability and armour protection.
AMEN!!!!! Went to war in the M-1A1 in 91……….having the 4th crewman around was a VERY big help when doing such things as maint. and all the other little “details” that every military unit has to do. And the autoloader is just something else to break- and usualy at the WORST moment.
Pentagon seems to be playing a game of “chicken”……..not requesting any and hoping congress will authorise 10 or so a year on its own……..
AAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!:D
EXACTLY!!!!! Its allmost criminal that the CH-46 was kept in service so long. Especialy when a perfectly good helo could have been in service in the early to mid 90s!
US Marines have had an EH101 equivalent since 1966. The latest version is called CH-53E.
CH-53 is a much larger a/c than the EH101……….the 101 was originaly seen as a SeaKing replacement by the RN.
I guess the big question that could be asked is – what would you have in place of Osprey? Now I am not defending Osprey at all, I am just asking, what could have been bought instead. Personally, I suspect you could probably have bought quite a few UH-1Ys or even a couple of CH-53s for the price of one Osprey. This might have been more militarily effective too…
Its called the EH101.
Someone should build an exact replica of R100….lol!
Will Guy Gibson have a dog in this movie?
I really hpoe not also! My big problem with the V-22 is the main mission its being assigned. Making it THE primary assault transport in the USMC. This craft will be hostile fire in a big way…….lets hope it can take battle damage as good as its predecessors. Another problem could be the differences in performance between it and the Marine Corp’s rotory wing aircraft. It is much faster than the good ol Cobra…….so Some new tactics would seem in order. But, all in all, Im glad (for now) I wont have to fly in them……again….REALLY hope Im wrong bout this.
