Nice huge photo of Admiral Kulakov. Ship was basically out of service from the fall of the USSR, so when the Russian Navy received the repaired ship, it basically got a new combat unit.
What radar system was removed from the area just above the bridge and replaced with the Gibka, and why? I forget.
Also, any news on Admiral Nakhimov refit and upgrade?
Can someone summarise the S-300V4 for me? Is it new build, an upgrade of older S-300Vs, or what?
Its a ****ty translation. Think of it as meaning “multiple increments of ten percent” – a way to say something like somewhat-less-than-50% better.
Any plans for the Army (not air defence) to get tracked Pantsir-S1s?
There’s no way one can credibly describe a LLLTV as having “90%” of the capability of a TI. That’s crazy – thermal imagers are far superior. The Su-34 will use a FLIR pod for that, Platan is for daylight work.

New Mi-8.
New paintjob, sure, but I don’t know if that’s a new aircraft. It looks old.
Ka-52 AM Co-axial Alligator ( via AndyB)
Thanks for this – I didn’t know there were more Ka-52s on order than Mi-28Ns! What changed?
Has there been any progress towards building new NK-32 engines for the Tu-160 fleet? I understand that most of the engines have expired their service life, and I’ve read an article that indicates no more than four are operational at any one time as a result.
So they’ll only be able to upgrade Kirov and Admiral Nakhimov? Too bad.
Talk about a sad state of affairs for the Lazarev
Well, the most obvious thing is they’ve stripped it of all its weapons and equipment. For all we know thats in preparation for refit.
The VVS CINC criticized work on the Su-35, saying it has a number of problems. PAK FA / T-50 is going on schedule, but he wouldn’t say when he expects it to enter the inventory.
Why have they suspended their order? Are the ones being built for the VVS originally intended for Brazil?
Weird. Shouldn’t they be focusing on building Mi-28Ns? How many Mi-35Ms (Mi-24VM?) are they getting?
EDIT: Ah, looks like an initial batch of six. Anymore planned?
Speaking of, how many Mi-28Ns are in service now?
Yes buddy, but lets be optimistic for the decade ahead. The last plans were for last decade and we know how the funds were then. Now some big-budgets have been announced and lets hope it will allow them to complete their plans.
Its not just funds, but the capability of industry to absorb those funds and deliver on their requirements. We can only wait and see – of course the government says industry is rubbish and is dragging their feet, whilst industry says their funding is irregular and creates delays.
But only one Gepard class…they don’t plan any further?
Presumably they figure they don’t need anymore for the Caspian Sea Flotilla.
What I found:
Thanks. Though we have yet to actually see Pantsir-S1 on any warship. 🙁
hav’t they been displaying it for for 5 years or so now in various expos?
Its just a mockup, AFAIK.
I don’t know if its more costly than french,
It is. They were hand made. This is why only a fraction of the original T-90 production run even had them.
And their performance have been dismal with high rate of failure due to the Indian operational conditions. They are the only problamatic area coming out of the equipments installed in the Indian T-90s. Do you got any info regarding the French TI on their Leclerc sold to UEA? The Tank itself have had some software issues and probebly they have sorted it out.
Whatever teething problems the Indians had, I’m talking about the Russian Army’s T-90As, not India’s T-90S.
can you tell what is the latest w.r.t to the TI from Russia? Have they or are they intended to produce the successor to the Agava TI? They had lower (1.5km?) range compared to the Catherine (2.5Km?), if I’m not wrong. But Agava is a 1-2 Generation lower than the French one. Also, any new info on the Belorussian TI development would be welcome. Thanks in Advance.
Nocturn is the last indigneous Russian TI sight I’ve heard of – as I said, it was adapted to the Mi-24PN’s ‘Zarevo’. Its still inferior to Catherine-FC and Catherine-XP.
It would be better for Russia to spend money on their own TI development rather than saving cost on a short-term by using French TI. If they invest in producing their own latest Gen TI, it will be an investment worth for their future growth.
Unfortunately those efforts haven’t borne fruit in any significant fashion. IMO, if Russian industry cannot supply something to meet the military’s requirements, then the military should shop elsewhere until industry can.
