Interbrew is thinking of moving to another country to avoid taxes, however, the breweries themself would remain in Belgium.

Yesterday drank a couple of delerium tremens. I feel like an opneemvod today 🙁

Phil, read my posts. I was replying to the people who said Britain is not Europe. And the reason why I said this forum was crap had to do with the fact that no one gave a serious answer, not because they didn’t agree with me, otherwise it would be quite stupid of me to post it on a forum. It was about two totally different discussions, I don’t expect people to agree with me, but I think I wasn’t completely wrong when saying this forum was crap, regarding 99% of the current topics. Seems like quantity of posts and signatures these days matter more. That’s all I wanted to say.

As I said the UK is not any difference from the rest of Europe. But it’s not like the EU wants to attach the UK to the mainland, is it?
I find it extremely arrogant of British to consider themselves different than any other Europeans. Either you say “OK, the UK is geographically and historically a part of Europe”. Or you say “Europe does not exist”, but than talk about all countries individually and don’t mention the E-word at all. Germany and France are not the same, it’s not like “the continent” is a country which is going to attack you.

Ohh, I think since 1701 we can talk about the UK, I really don’t understand you Britons, why do you want to be called English or Scottish. I consider myself to be a Belgian (with Dutch as his mothertongue) and European, but I really detest this flag waving regionalism.

And the EU really doesn’t need the UK for the money. :rolleyes:µ

BTW, Snapper, many British do want to be part of Europe, but they don’t want to be “ruled” by Brussels, and that’s a completelly different issue. I don’t want a EU-superstate: that’s never going to happen anyway, because all EU-nations agree on that fact. France and Germany are also very keen on their souvereignity. But there should be a clear distinction between things decided in Brussels and the national capitals.

    Pixies-DVD

DVD Pixies – release April 15th

It is over two and a half hours separated into four categories; live footage, videos, tour footage and a documentary. Here’s how it’s broken down:

Live: A complete Pixies show from 1988 at London’s Town and Country Club.

Videos: Eight hard to find videos for Monkey Gone to Heaven, Here Comes Your Man, Velouria, Dig for Fire/Allison, Head On, Alec Eiffel and Debaser.

On the Road: Intimate, behind-the-scenes footage, mostly taken on the Pixies’ 1989 European tour.

Gouge: A documentary tracing the Pixies’ story featuring interviews with Bono, David Bowie, Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead), Graham Coxon and Alex James (Blur), Fran Healy (Travis), P J Harvey, Tim Wheeler (Ash) and Damon Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy.

I don’t know Hand, I don’t like the idea of a referendum. Democracy is not perfect, but there’s really no better way to govern a country and to satisfy the majority of the population (not all). Actually I think it’s Locke who said democracy is just a dictatorship backed by a majority of the population. I agree.

Interflug nice to see there are at least some Brits on the forum who understand the benefits of European cooperation. Why would it be impossible to be both British/English and European? I mean, historically, Britain has never been isolated from the rest of Europe. As to say the UK is not Europe, that’s just crap. The UK is not a different culture, if you believe that you’re either stupid or arrogant. What makes one thing the differences between lets say Britain and France are so much bigger than between France and Spain or Italy. All EU-nations have their own culture. From now on, I’m going to stop using the word continental Europe because that would mean that the canal is a frontier of two civilisations. It seems only football can bring British closer to the rest of Europe. The UK is a great country, but to be honest, in daily life, it resembles a lot to Belgium (at least from what I’ve experienced).

Indeed it’s very annoying and stupid. There are some things I really don’t need to know.

Well, Kye, what you say is somehow true. The EU has other things to worry about than driving on which side of the rode. Frankly, I don’t care. The EU is not a ‘federal gov’t’ and will most likely never become one. But a common economic and foreign (including military) policy should somehow be possible, without losing your national identity.

Flood, I do like sarcasm, but there’s a difference between sarcasm and acting stupid. An ID-card is not a chip planted into my brains so the evil Belgian socialist gov’t can electroshock me. It’s just a useful tool to catch illegal imigrants for example. To be honest, I never had to show my ID-card so far, at least not to a gov’t official. And France, the Netherlands and Belgium have asked Britain several times to introduce such a system. I don’t know, but are you Britons so afraid of showing your name and date of birth. What has that to do with human rights.

And I gave one example. Ofcourse ID-cards can’t do anything about unemployment. You’re smart enough to know that without having to mention it here.

In fact you shouldn’t even step out of the EU, as the EU formally, untill there’s a constitution, doesn’t even exist. It would be very simple, and democratic. Tony Blair on his own can say “ok, we’re leaving.” He doesn’t even need parliament’s approvement I think. Brussels is only giving guidelines. The EU itself can’t punish you. But France, Germany, Spain can ofcourse, and will.

And Flood or Minidoh one last argument. You say “we have to pay a lot to the EU”. I think you’re referring to the agricultural troubles from the past few years. Well, everyone had to give in. But before WWII, when there were economic interests endagered, countries just went to war. Didn’t the Dutch three times defeated you in the 17th century for this purpuse (trade) only? Through Brussels we can work it out more civilised. But I can already imagine people are thinking we’re using British pounds here on the continent to subsidise waffle factories etc. That’s just not true. In fact, the economic policies of the EU are more Anglo-saxon than continental. It’s mostly “socialist” countries like France, Germany and the Netherlands who suffer from the biggest reforms. Hence the reason why Rafarrin’s gov’t has been so unpopular lately. So it’s really not the British only who have to give in. The EU is lets say, the least evil of all evils :p

It will also help if the power of the EU lays in the hands of the commission AND parliament and not the council. The EU is now so unpopular because it’s more a forum where countries can take revenge (for example Fr/Ger vs Britain for the Iraq war) rather than a universal and rational institution where the interrests of Europe as a whole are regarded.
