Another al-Qaida hotbed. They wouldn’t have been arrested if they’d done nothing to arouse suspicion.

OOOh sorry. Forgot that too. You aren’t allowed to go anymore in Pakistan as well? Gee, are we still alowed to go to Iran? My sister in law is partly Iranian, she has family living there. Are we suspects now?

Doing something suspicious? It’s like arresting somebody because he’s looking to long at my car. he might steal it. 😡 😡 😡

Insensitive post in a thoughtful thread Ben.

I mentioned losing my dad, is that so insensitive? I just hope Steve doesn’t turn his back to the world because of this fact. It’s not insensitive, sometimes people ought to tell the truth. That doesn’t mean I don’t feel sorry for Steve. In fact, I hope he can find the strenght to go one. But how do we help Steve by saying “we’re so sorry” if we turn of our pc and don’t care anymore. I was giving him advice.

It’s OK Steve. I can get emotional too sometimes. I hope your friend gets better. Cancer doesn’t always mean the end, you know. However, if your colleague died one week after diagnose he probably has had it a long time but was afraid of going to the doctor.

I however hate remarks like “gov’t is not putting money into cancer treatment but in prisons”. Gov’t has to take care of everyone.

There’s no difference in theory. Both are innocent untill proven guilty. In fact, if they were dressed in terrorist suites etc and were sooo guilty why were they send back? Because US wants to please Belgium by releasing two terrorists into our society?

Well, I can understand what you’re going through. Look, I lost my dad too when I was very young. You are reacting very emotional right now which I understand. But don’t let your view of the world become too negative. There’s enough to live for. In fact, people who have never experienced real problems (losing a family member or a dear friend) are always the ones who complain most, think they are treated unfairly etc.

People with some life-experience are most of the times optimistic, because they know there are other things to worry about. I hope Steve, that you can find peace the following days. I know it’s hard, but don’t hate the “world” because of this.

I find it strange though you were laughing away the fact that two possibly innocent people have been kept captive in Cuba for 4 years. So where’s the justice you talk about?

Should have slotted the b@st@rds on sight, would have saved a lot of taxpayers money and a lot of left-wing ‘civil rights’ nonsense.

I know I’m not much of help right now, but you are not the only one on this planet suffering. Losing someone dear really hurts, I know it myself quite well, but that doesn’t justify something as egocentric-emotionality.

I don’t intend to take my summer jollies in Tora Bora – on Sea. Nor do I intend to do anything which would even slightly incur the suspicion of anti-terror forces.

No, but lets say you talk to a girl on the street on the following day she accuses you of paedophilia!! That’s possible. Don’t say you never talked to young girls. Luckily, you are innocent untill proven guilty (sometimes even evidence is not enough). But let’s say you are arrested on the ACCUSATION of paedophilia and brought to a camp thousands kilometers away. No trial. Yep, you shouldn’t have been there, maybe, but is that sufficient? I thought law was based on evidence, not on presumptions. Fact is these guys were actually dropped of by a Herc on a military airport. There was police awaiting but the American soldiers just gave them in our hands with no documents. That means they didn’t have a case, not even in a military court. They would not have released them if they were guilty.

This is not because these two were Belgian. It just makes me sick. Steve, this is not about Leftwing BS. Do you think a fair trial is leftwing? Honestly? Than call me a leftie.

It doesn’t matter wheter they ate waffles and drank beer all day, Comet. They WERE Belgian. They had our nationality, and it was not a phony passport. One was from Moroccan and the other from Turkish desent. Fact is there’s not even a case against these two people. You are innocent untill proven guilty. “Better safe than sorry” WTF? How would you react if you’ve been in jail 4 years without a trial? I think this is a dangerous evolution. I don’t understand how Americans can agree with this if they are so afraid of any gov’t controll, but it’s ok for the gov’t to keep citizens in jail from other countries. Something says me the founding fathers wouldn’t have liked that.

Less liberal regimes? At least our Dept of Foreign Affairs knows the accusations if someone is brought to justice in Thailand or Saudi Arabia and they can send someone from the embassy.
