Could someone explain just how the pilots are supposed to look at the wing tips and check for clearances. Surely you would need someone standing nearby for that sort of excercise (and don’t call me Shirley 🙂 )

Heathrow have identified this area as a potential hazard (via the ATIS). Should ATC then be routing 2 very large aircraft around each other here ?

And finally Esther, what has changed in this area to make it a hazard worthy of notification ?

My girlfriend is a teacher and she has has just told me that teachers are no longer allowed to refer to dates as BC (as in in the year 43 BC) as it can cause offense to other faiths.

Its getting sillier by the day or am I over reacting?

So therefore I am assuming that anything dated in AD is also not allowed. So how does your teacher girlfriend write the date down ?? 9th October XXXX

Perhaps we should have the amount of years since the Queen was crowned. And if that causes offence to other faiths then they might need to look at emigrating to Australia. 😀

    Welcome,

As the tips are being passed around, here’s one more.

Take a breath and hold it before pressing the shutter. You’d be surprised how much the camera moves, especially if you’ve zoomed in on something.

(This is only if you are holding the camera close to you. NOT applicable if it’s on a tripod)

And just remember to start breathing again !!!!!

1st picture. Think the back end of the KLM on the left and the posts on the right are in the way. They might let you get away with runway designator. Even though you can’t see much of the plane, its a picture of an aeroplane at work

2nd. Too dark. Can’t see main landing gear

3rd. Too much space between aircraft and buildings. It should be either a clean picture of aeroplane climbing, or a ‘just on rotation’ picture

4th. You know what you wanted to show, but as mentioned earlier, it’s too cluttered. Doesn’t show the plane. However, it is a good ‘airport’ shot

Talk about scrapping the bottom of the barrel for ideas to REJECT these. I’m glad I don’t do the screening on these for a living, ‘cos I’d be letting most stuff through.

The Latest (and last I should think) update:-

A security crackdown at Pescara airport in Italy – where police reportedly confiscated digital cameras from British tourists’ hand baggage – is over, according to airport managers.
Police at the airport were understood to be targeting passengers carrying electronic devices – including cameras – in their hand luggage on Ryanair flights to London (See AP 17 June).
It is thought the crackdown may have resulted from the airport’s interpretation of guidelines laid down by the Italian Aviation Authority, relating to tighter security on flights to London, but this has not been confirmed.
A Ryanair spokeswoman confirmed that there had been a ‘procedure’ in place – and that this was applied at the airport ‘in a restrictive way’ – but she told us this was only in operation ‘for a limited amount of time’. She was not able to elaborate on this or confirm whether the restrictions were part of security measures.

    Further to to Human Rights

“I have been told that taking photos is against the human rights of those on board the aircraft because I don’t have their permission to take the pic. Absolute twaddle of course.”

Photographing a consenting model.ie Studio photo session (preferably the female form 😮 :p ) requires a model release form to be signed if the picture is to been seen in public. Advert, portfolio, WWW.
The same “Technically” goes if you take a picture in the street and people can be identified.
However, to be able to identify someone peering through an aircraft window is 0% unless you have one hell of a zoom lens and a very steady hand.
Therefore I would say to anyone going on about Human Rights and Photos to politely ****** off. However, you get a copper on a bad one and you could end up doing a lot of explaining in the local cop shop. 😡

Right then. My thoughts (been a memebrs for a short while, posted even less).
I do look at the photos, read the discussions, and ENJOY the atmosphere. I’ve voted on this poll, and look forward to the result. I do believe however, that any result will help this forum move forward. My reasoning:-

I’m going to start taking an active roll. If I like the look of a photo, I’m going to get off my backside and post a comment. And if I think a photo sucks, I’ll post to that effect. Hopefully comments to the photographer will allow them to improve their skills or just turn into another flame war.

I’ve seen too many photos posted just for the sake of posting. Too dark, out of focus, badly cropped. People posting should start being subjective and picky.

Lets get rid of “cool pics” and replace it with decent comments or even
“C**P picture – (out of focus, under/over exposed, where’s the rest of the plane 😮 )”

    Just my thoughts

Lets add another one to the actors list.

Just seen the blood donors advert. Gordon Ramsey in the football stadium. His ‘lifesaver’ is Ryan. The guy with the big hair. (Or his twin brother)

Do you think channel 4 are taking us for a ride ????

    Photographer’s Corner

    Hi,
If you’re shooting through glass get yourself a polarising filter, (if you have a screw end on your lens) Gets rid of the relections. Good for tight cockpit shots where you can get rid of the glare and see the pilots.

    Just a thought

To be said in your best David Attenborough voice
“And here we see the rare sight of the birth of an Airbus. Watch as the hanger pushes the plane out backwards. “
