Sacrelage!!!!!!!! shame on you Scott:eek::eek:, the only MV’s entitled to be called Jeeps Have Willys on the grille and chassis or are Ford GPA’s ;)-( even Hotchkiss’s don’t qualify).:D
Havent heard this before myself, came across it on another forum here in Ireland; http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056229920

Its strange how just listening to the crackling recording, the narrator’s tone, even his use of words, makes it seem all very real.
I stand to be corrected, but this sounds like the narration to the original ” Memphis Belle” documentary. Interesting either way, and thank you for sharing.:)
The row on the right from the far end G-AOKA/OKK/OKV/OKR/OKN/OLE etc-is that sad? When the back row were dismantled(14May60) the area where the second (left) row is still had Harvard fuselages piled up.
Did you by any chance photograph the Britannia test fuselage
If G-AOKO was amongst them, she is currently awiting restoration with Aeroventure.
It seems to be an American radial engine problem, but not just for those fitted to aircraft. A friend’s Sherman tank,( a Canadian M4 A1 ) is fitted with a down-rated Wright Whirlwind that requires the proceedure before starting.
Unfortunately this requires some poor B****r to use a hand crank and rotate it through 70 cycles.
It is interesting to read comments regarding how the Dornier should be displayed and understand both camps of argument. For me, I am torn between the two, but I relish the prospect of seeing a Do17 in the flesh one way or another.
So here’s hoping the Dorniers recovery and display go to plan so we all benefit.
This is the former Doug Arnold aircraft and is remembered by some of us older folk for that stunning paint scheme when it made appearances at shows like Great Warbirds at West Malling in the 1980’s.
In this view from Oshkosh 2005 ( hang on there’s TWO painted the same 😮 )
NL5427V is closest to camera and N314BG is sitting behind it.
Probably ‘cos its a rare “Twin Mustang”:diablo::D
That looks very much like the ex A.F.Budge collection set up- minus Texan
😀
I woke up this morning to find someone had left this big lump in my garden. 🙂
I take it you mean the “thing” in front of the Merlin powered trailer?:D:D
Breaks my heart seeing those beautiful phantoms in that condition,I only wish more could have been saved, even as nose sections-I have plenty of space for one or two of them now,can we wind the clock back to ’93 and clear the yard at Stock? Oh well A man can dream…….
Yep, as an ex-Wattashame bod I can only echo your words.
I’m the owner of the Nimrod AEW3 cockpit, XV259. This nose section (minus massive bulbous radome) is the last/only surviving AEW3 relic of the era. Having owned it since 1998 I’m considering its future and whether my time with it is coming to a close.
Presently XV259 is at Solway Aviation Museum at Carlisle Airport – I can’t speak highly enough of all involved there, they are a fantastic group to be involved with. I, and they, would be happy for the Nimrod to remain, but as I said, time moves on and I’m considering selling up. I’m aware of all the interest about Nimrods, sadly for all the wrong reasons and that efforts to save Nimrods have been difficult.
XV259 is a very visitor friendly cockpit, largely complete and moveable both practically and legally. I brought it from Essex to Cumbria on a self-drive 7.5 tonne flat-bed. Slightly hairy for the uninitiated, the drive was a bit of an adventure, but actually quite easy.
My heart is firmly with the preservation community, so rather hacking it about on eBay I thought it best to spread the word a little and consider options. It may be a project right for an individual too, there’s still more that can be done with it and, as I mentioned, the museum at Carlisle would still be happy to host it. Photos are available on Google searching for XV259.
Drop me a line on this forum, I’d be happy to talk about it.
This wasn’t the one used at Finningley by any chance?
If it was please PM me

As an ambulanceman I deal with both the injured and deceased, almost on a daily basis, but I still find it hard to convey the right words when something on this scale occurrs like this.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Christchurch at this time.
Oh aye, very weird seeing it after all this time, last time I the place was as one of those Swinderby newbies 31 years ago this month!! 😮
It’ll be 22 years since I did my MFT there this April- the Words of the opening lines of OC regiment’s speech prior to the start of the exercise will probably haunt me for life though.
” Gentlemen, MFT is not hard……, but you as recruits might find it hard”
Ironically, I couldn’t believe that the tents where inside a hangar when we got on site- spoiled us rotten they did.:D
Bruce-thank you for the quick reply, the website is the Flights4all site, look at the vintage flight column on the left of the home page, then click on Spitfire- it gives details for the Spitfire 10K challenge.
It may come to nought, but if at least this gives a window of opportunity to persuade the powers that be that there are many who’d love the chance to fly in a Spitfire, and may be open doors to fly other twin/multi seat warbirds.
Tried to add the missing photos to my original but couldn’t. Hope this doesn’t spoil the thread! I may find and replace others gone missing…:(

It certainly does, it came down from NEAM to Aeroventure Circa 2000 and has now gone back to neam:)

Given the High number of Hampdens operated out of Lincs and your description, gives firm credibilty to it being one of this type.
Sid Finn’s books ” Lincolnshire Air War 1 & 2 ” lists many of the county’s crashes, so would at least give some idea how many came down in the Wash- I’ve loaned mine out to someone at work at the mo’ so can’t help for now.
Sorry I can’t be of further help.
