Already posted elsewhere but thought I’d put it here too..
I was TG9 aswell……but not as old as rover!!!!
Dunnit take yer back!!!!!
I did “Swinditz” in March ’89 with an AATC course after( in which I was Back-flighted twice:mad:,) left in Nov ’90 & then Re-joined in 1994- basic training at Halton this time, followed by 10 1/2 years as a Mover – Hell I must have been barmy !!!!!:eek::eek:;)
July ’75, I couldn’t remember my DI’s name but now you mention Cpl Smith that rings a bell..
Gibson block then on to Shawbury for AATC trade training. I remember hearing of bedpacks thrown out of windows for being not of the required standard, did it actually happen to anyone here?
Although they didn’t go out of the window, our Cpl found the 1st he inspected to be safety-pinned- in a rage he proceeded to throw the remaining packs all over, only to find mine was the only one that wasn’t pinned. Needless to say I was gutted.:(
Halifax NA581, a 425 Squadron BIII & Wellington HE616, both of which crashed within the vicinity of Blyth in Nottinghamshire – it is situated on the village green.
I have been researching the Halifax crash, which came down in very tragic circumstances with the loss of all the crew.
As Blyth is on the A1, if you get the chance, pop & have a look.
92 years old……..still flying a Citation jet………….20/20 vision…….
There’s ‘ope for us all laddie, there’s ‘ope for us all!!!!!!!!!:D:D
Mind you it’s a wonderfully quirky & touching story though.
If it is similar to Do 17, with it being found in the Baltic, could it be Do217?
‘Ere, RM, cop this!

Quite a machine…
Thanks Blue 2,
Definetley the beastie I remember
Thanks Moggy, that sounds familiar.:)
I hazzard a guess but could it be seaplane, e.g. Dornier 24?
I’m amazed no-one has mentioned “Von Ryan’s Express”. With Frank Sinatra in the starring role & footage of a P-38 to boot.
By the way, I think this one was fictional.

Alex, there is a Battle of Britain book I have that has an account of ops by the Sqn Hectors, I will dig it out over the W/E & have a look to see if there are any other I.D.s
Cees, it was the black, dark green / dark earth camoflage as per the B Mk X that I was referring to:). IMHO the Silver/ Yellow scheme, although important is not fitting enough given the types history.
P.s. hows the Halifax cockpit coming on?
Back to subject- yes the silver/yellow scheme would be interesting, however the Wimpy Mk III & X were the mainstay of the many OTU’s dotted up & down the country- for me a more fitting tribute would be to finish the aircraft as an OTU aircraft as so many crews lost thier lives while training.
Never! Britain ‘nicked’ the Hendon Ju88 fair-and-square during the war…..we couldn’t give it up now! 😀
Personally, I like the idea of the Luftwaffe nightfighters being in the Bomber Hall…
…at least you’d be able to see the damn things! :diablo:
Nicked……. as I understand it was donated by a couple of members of the crew.:diablo:
