I know of a Valiant radome that was used as a shelter by a farmer for many years- it was still in his yard a few years ago.

but has anyone noticed the ad at the top of this thread? Unless its gone by the time you read this I bet they haven’got many ex-fuselage sheds for sale!!!!

(at the time of writing the ad is/was about sheds for sale-now wasit deliberate????)-Rad

I went through 4FTS at Worksop in the mid-50s and I am under the impression that most of the supporting services, such as maintenance and safety equipment were provided by Airwork.

If you have any stories, pictures etc I would love to here from you as we have a display about RAF Worksop at Doncaster Aeroventure-please PM me with anything you have got.

how about a statue of John Prescott?

As (not so) Great Britain seems to want to be appologetic,clueless,anti-everything that this country was about & a burden to every tax payer in the land it’s a good start.:D

Considering that his workshop and mineshaft has been vandalised, neglected and will soon be auctioned off to the highest bidder along with his house.

Considering that his priceless, collection of rescued, irreplaceable relics of Britains past have been stolen and no doubt melted down by Pykies.

Considering that his famous Land Rover has been left to rot.

Considering that his two steam engines have had to be illegally taken to a secret place of safety by his real mates in order to save them.

Considering that his wife Sheila, chucked out of the house and left penniless, is having to pound the lecture circuit to raise the £35,000 for a statue in his home town of Bolton because the local authority whose town he put on the map can’t be ar##d.

Considering that UK Discovery and History channels show his programmes back to back don’t reveal what has happened to the memory of this great man.

His statue should be 20ft high, a spitfire and hurricane in each hand, floodlit and with ‘Did you like that’ engraved in huge letters on the plinth.

Or perhaps the ‘Great’ Damien Hirst will have other ideas involving bodily fluids, or Tracey Emin might be interested in bidding for his bed and displaying that, what do we know about art after all.

Don’t forget he should be showing a well aimed (reversed) Churchill salute.

I feel somthing on the lines of the BofB memorial with all service & civilian organisations of both wars depicted, with the centre of the memorial emphesising the biltz.

Lovely to see Poppies have been placed on the BofB memorial in the photos-nice to see somthing really positive & that thereare people out there that do care.

Wish I was 21 again, able to go back in time, win a dozen or so lottery jackpots, convert it all into real money(pounds, shillings & pennies),then go back in time & buy a disused expansion era airfield. Then I would buy 1 or 2 of each type that is rare or extinct,a few more common types and a nice little M.V. collection & mothball them until the aviation restoration movement came about.:D

I haven’t been able to do much aviation art of late due to an excessive amount of portrait drawings I’ve had to do for people for some festive thing thats going on in a few days but am half way through a Vulcan drawing of 558 and have also have on the go a drawing of the MATS Connie and a Buccaneer, so once the xmas period is gone I can continue these pictures and will post the finished results on here.

From what I can see though at the minute, the amount of outstanding stuff on here is enough to keep us going.

    Great stuff guys 😉

I thought it would generate a bit of interest, but even I am amazed by the response to this thread-If it wasn’t for you showing your initial drawings the thread may not have started.

    Please keep ’em coming.

Sorry for the close subject matter to a previous thread, but I would like to know the status of Nimrods or parts that are in collections generally?

After posting in Shack cockpit thread I suddenly remembered that Nimrod XV237 passed through Orchards scrapyard, and Demobbed has it as residing nearby at St Austell. Does anyone know more about this one in particular?

Also, does anyone know if any complete Nimrod is promised to a major collection when they go out of service?
    All information welcomed.

The cockpit of XW666 resides at Aeroventure.

Not really an aviation film, but Full Metal Jacket ‘army camp’ was filmed at Bassingbourne.

B****r, you beat me to that one-a friend of mine was based there at the time of filming and is one of the “extras” in a scene where a group of troops where marching(all army lads)-you can see the C-type hangars in the background on that one.

However for those of us old & daft enough to remember a sit-com called “Get some in!” there is a scene with actor Robert Lindsey & a dog filmed in front of a Javelin. Not sure which airfeild they filmed it on, but one of you are bound to know.:D

Yes, but is it historically correct, which is the point of the thread…;)

Although it is the prototype, it is not representative of the aircraft in its initial form. The later scheme is therefore more appropriate.

This was the reasoning behind our returning the Mosquito to its 1946 status. If we hadnt, there would be a great loss of original material to properly represent it during its flying life.

    Bruce

By definition history is any occurence or event prior to the present moment. What I am led to believe about DG202 is it had an accident which reqiured replacement wings-the only ones available were Mk III’s-hence the airbrakes. If the aircraft has not been restored by RAFM,i.e kept in the same state as when aquired, surely it is historically correct even if it is not in its original state,so I agree that its present state is appropriate.

Besides does an historical aircraft exhist that has every component and same paint finish that it started life with?

Bought ‘Those Magnificent Men And Their Flying Machines’ the other day – in one flying scene when flying around Brookley, it’s a plane with an actor sat on it in front of a screen, and on the screen it flys behinds the hangars and dips a wing, and you can see a short wheelbase Land Rover and a couple of other 1960’s cars!

So you missed the ferries in Dover harbour then?:)
