For God’s sake don’t mention the idea to the Green Party or it will be in their next manifesto! But assuming that it has to use fuel from a renewable source, I’d love to see the air to air refueling. Tossing the caber could take on a completely new dimension!

If its steam powered, what wrong with a neuclear rod for the heat source & using the clouds for a water supply in flight?:D 😀 😀 😀

BUT FOR GOD’S SAKE DON’T SHOW THAT ONE TO THE GREENS!!!!!!!!

Ok,I have been building them on & off since I was 7 or 8,I still do at the age of 43…….& I still feel no shame:cool: .

Many of mine are on display at Aeroventure including the much feared:eek: (assembly-wise)1/48 scale Fonderie Minatures Halifax-Its not an easy kit to build but the end result is well worth it.

LETS BE HONEST,most of us those out there in restoration land have had a dabble-its how you get started on the real thing:D .

there’s a new estate where every road is named after a WW2 British aircraft – no aviation connection that I’m aware of…………

    http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=458500&Y=382000&width=700&height=400&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=pc&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=true&zm=0&scale=5000&left.x=4&left.y=141

You beat me to that one Jeepman:D there is an indirect link or two I believe- many of the types operated from nearby airfields i.e Bircoates,Finningley,Firbeck,Gamston & Worksop + a Wellington & Meteor came down within 3/4 mile of the said estate.

Also a nearby estate has streetnames of airfields.

Don’t always believe what the locals tell you the first was a Hurricane of 87 Sqn not a FAA Corsair.

The Hellcat was left to rot and finally scrapped as far as I am aware no parts survived.

No B26 parts, especially engines are in Guernsey, though one of the landing gear is in the War Tunnels in Jersey, as is a part of the hood from a P51C that came down in Jersey. The only engine I can remember being at the Guernsey museum was a Merlin from a Spitfire.

Two B17s lie to the west of Guernsey IIRC “Screwball Express” and “Piccadilly Commando” both came down on News Years eve 1943. Parts have been retrieved by local divers.

A 49 Sqn Lancaster crashed on Sark 23/11/42 a 207 Sqn Lanc came down approx 10 miles north of Guernsey 24.10.42 as did three Typhoons of 263 Sqn 22/02/44, and another from 263 in June 1944 crashed on Jersey.

Two 263 Sqn Whirlwinds crashed to the South of Jersey in December 1942, another to the North of Sark along with a 616 Sqn Spitfire on 15/06/43.

A 439 Sqn Typhoon crashed close to the harbour mouth St Peter Port 05/06/44.

A Spitifre came down on Alderney IIRC sometime in 1942.

Several 41 Sqn Spitfire XII’s were lost around June 1944, one pilot lost one saved, another PRU Spitfire crashed onto cliffs to the south of Guernsey in 1943.

A 247 Sqn Typhoon came down close to Guernsey 28/02/44,
234 Sqn Spitfire close to Alderney 02/11/42 ,
431 Sqn Wellington, St Ouens Bay Jersey 10/04/43,
541 Sqn Spitfire close to Guernsey 25/01/43,

A P38 crashed onto cliff to the SW of Jersey early 1945, the pilot was rescued from the sea by a local.
P51C crash landed at St Ouen in mid 1944, as did a P47.
A C47 crashed into Bouley Bay to the north of Jersey, also in Mid 1944, all bar one of those on board died.

A 464 Sqn Ventura came down close to Guernsey, shot down by FW190’s 13/06/43.

And of course Spitfire Vb EN830 which crash landed in Jersey November 18 1942.

These are the ones that I can recall from memory, I will dig out a much more detailed list at the weekend.

Any more details on the 616 sqn Spitfire?

Yes it does happen occasionally, while travelling on an East coast mainline train back to Retford a gentleman walked past who I immediately recognised-none other than Richard Todd of “Dam busters” fame.Needless to say I was so surprised all I could do was ask if it was him.:)

Don’t forget the ‘Nazi pilot’ that ‘popped up’ again in an episode of the first series of Bergerac, “Late for a funeral”.

Ah, remembered fantasies of moving to Jersey and living in sin with Diamante Lil – (still pretty – and she owned a pub!).

Was that the one were the diver was looking in the cockpit of an Me 110?
If it was you ain’t that old———or is old age creeping up on me???????h’mmm:D

Could you specify which version of the HS125 you’re referring to?

You could try asking one of the museums which have early HS125 models to take photos of the bits you need, or ask them if you can gain cockpit access to take photos yourself. EG:

G-ARYA HS125 Prototype – De Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre
G-ARYC HS125-1 – De Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre
    G-ASSM HS125-1/522 – Science Museum, London
    G-ATPD HS125-1B/522 – Bournemouth Aviation Museum
    G-ARYB HS125-1 – Midland Air Museum, Coventry
    ZF130 HS125-600B – All Aero Ltd, Crawley

On top of these Aeroventure have the cockpit of 125-G-BOCB at doncaster+ we recently got the former Cranwell/Finningley Jetstream simulator which may be of help systems & mechanics-wise.

OK it was nowt as grand as a Spitfire or a Lancaster but it was a genuine warbird that had served in N Africa in WWII-whilst working at Gamston I got to fly in an L4 Piper Cub(Grasshopper) after a few minuits I was allowed to take control which I did for a very short 10-15 mins.

Other than that Just a Sedberg out of RAF Lindholme (showing my age :), another one,a Yorks UAS Bulldog & Beagle pup out of Gamston,oh I also flew to Jersey 1 year in a Viscount- mustn’t forget the spare seat ride in the cockpit of a TCA (Take a Chance Airways )707 on my way back to RAF Waddington from Italy, where I swear as we approached the UK you could follow the coastline from the wash to the IOW.

    Stolen Poppy Tins (merged)

I know this should go on the relevent thread, but a front page story on a newark newspaper says a 38 y/o man has been taken in for questioning with regards to the theft of poppy tins in the notts area.:D

Hopefully a result providing he doesn’t get off on technicality or a judge who sees him as a victim of his own crime.

Is there really a genuine purpose to standing around the fence outside airfields and writing down the registrations/serials? Or for that matter, standing on the platform end writing down train numbers?

zhr (a dyed in the wool number collector)

That I don’t know, but while they keep coming to museums, paying an entry fee & putting money in the coffers towards aircraft restoration,I’m happy.
