    Hello Stuart

Thanks for the info. My wings do not have ribs like the original so they can fold exactly where i need them too.
I am aware of the police restrictions and our wings will fold up much closer in, the wing will then fold double to keep the height as low as possible. We are building a purpose built trailer so it can be towed with my truck..

Just a suggestion although it may late in the day, what about fore & aft female spars that lead 12-18″ from either side of the fuselage, fixed full span f&a male spars in the wings & under wing bolt access panels allowing the wing to be removed as a whole out board of the u/c to allow transport & bolted on as required negating any folding mechanism.

Yes, there is one, it was seen in the late 70’s and the way it was described to me, it was definately a Manchester, it’s not in the UK. It would, I believe be a good candidate for a recovery, if the will and funds exist, I did mention it to a large Uk museum, no interest there, though.

where is it & what state(the latter will do if you cant divulge its location)?

Just looked at the photo’s for the first time, looking very good, but who cares if the airframe isn’t a German 109-after all it is a Spanish built 109G variant that has in effect been back-engineered to use a DB powerplant.

If it gets a 109 back in the air that looks like the real McCoy,then bring it on.
(never got the chance to see black 6 in the air…….sniff sniff:( )

Tell us how you really feel…
Doctors say it’s not good to hold emotions in….:D

Propstrike is correct…if you look on the bright side, there are thousands of other boxes that haven’t been stolen and it’s not hard to look around see that there are a lot of good people in the world…but even one box going missing is a sad reflection on modern society.

You have a fair point, regards the others that have not been stolen, but the British Leigeon & other services charities still have to raise more & more each year because of the increasing numbers of ex-service personell that need their help.

It may only have been a few pounds,it may have been hundreds-but for someone to make even a token effort(as a volunteer)by leaving the boxes in shops, only for low-lifes to take them is beyond me-it is very likely to be drug user related-a sad reflection on society today.

S*d the B****y over crowded prisons-you do the crime, you do the time.If & when they catch ’em, bang ’em up-20 to a cell-minimum!

I have to agree with that – I’ve found some extremely useful info from the RAF Museum’s collection of log books for my research. Who knows what information somebody will want in future – and having what you did recorded in an archive is not available to everybody.
The nice thing about the RAF Museum system is that they will copy them and send the originals back – which you can then make use of as you wish, including gving them to a local museum. A museum which makes information available to researchers is always a good option.

I’m not too bothered by this sale since the collection is kept intact. What is really sad are photos of pilots being sold but separated from the information about where it was taken, why and, often, even who the man in the photo is. Once the story is removed from the object, a lot of its interest goes as well.

    Allan

One of my biggest regrets was when visiting an antique centre at the old RAF Hemswell circa 1987, I found for sale a DFC+other medals, log books & photo’s which spanned a pilots career from the mid 1930’s to the 1960’s,I wish I had the money at the time as the price was-a mere £350 for the lot.:(

I quite agree that it is sad when items which meant so much to the original owner seem to loose the interest of those into whose care they have been entrusted. Having said that, we know little about the circumstances which have lead to these artifacts being offered for sale.

I’ve no idea who will get my flying logbooks when I’ve passed away. Certainly, my children will not be getting them. When I retired some 10 years ago, I handed down a bonedome of mine to my son, as he showed a great deal of interest in what I had done whilst wearing it, only to find that he’s now hoping to sell it. While there’s nothing particularly significant about my logbooks and medals, they represent a career full of achievement to me, if no-one else.

It seems that the things we hold dear mean so little to others.

I know they are personal to you,but have you thought of loaning /donating them to a nearby air museum. Its items like log books that help to build a picture of life within the services, but they often tend to be aquired by private collectors rather than go to museums.

Just to let interested forum members know:

A small wreath laying ceremony will take place at the memorial to Flt Sgt Eric Williams in Gordon Gardens, Gravesend, Kent, on Sunday 11 November at 12.30pm. The ceremony will be attended by Eric’s daughter, Jennifer, from the USA and other family members along with the local MP Adam Holloway and members of the team who brought the case of Eric Williams to light over twenty years ago and who have since campaigned, with his family, to see his body recovered for burial with full military honours before the crash site is re-developed. Any forum members wishing to attend would be more than welcome.

It is hoped, weather permitting, that a Spitfire flypast will take place over the river at 1 o’clock.

    Andy

Even though I can’t get I will be there in thought if nothing else.
