there is a book I have called Vietnam Air war- its a cracker which covers the Indo-China air wars from 1945, it includes the involvment of the French & amongst the Japanese “Gems” they used was a number of “Oscars”. Overall it is a good illustration of the transition from WWII era aircraft to the introduction of the then state of the art F.14.:)
Now I’ve found it (thanks Trumper) I’ll put it here
Just finished this commission which I’m pretty pleased with. comments as always welcome
Thanks
Paul C
Very, very, nice Paul, I should think you are pleased.:)
Silly question though is it 92 or early 616 Sqn codes please?
Bravo 24.
Why would you restore a cockpit?
It is something that has always fascinated me. So Anorak. It’s similar to restoring the front seat of a 1963 Ford Capri!
Why bother.
If you are really interested in aviation, go the full hog, and actually get your teeth into an airframe. And don’t bother with…”it’s all some of us can afford”
There…I will duck from the incoming.
Sadly it is so often the case that its the only major component of an aircraft to survive after the scrappies get their mitts on one.
Restoring a complete aircraft isn’t always feasable- you need a massive amount of resources i.e. funds, bods & transport justt o move one.
Loverly photo’s Brian-thanks for sharing.:)
P.s. that CASA III in the background still looks a bit forlorn- I’d love to give it some TLC.

Let’s just hope that history does not repeat itself.
While totally agreeing with your sentiments, Commander West is spot on by saying that they should send a sub or say one is in the area.
If that had happened before the War would never have taken place, as was proved that the Argentinian Navy is a one shot Navy and after the sinking of the Belgrano they never again left port.
What really pi***es me off is the other South American nations ganging up, so they don’t export anything to us then?Graham
Never mind the Fray Bentos pies- we’d better start stocking up on Coffee Then- we’re gonna need it:diablo::diablo:
Nothing too special,my first was as an ATC Cadet in a Sedberg out of Lindholme, 1st prop was a Viscount over to Jersey & 1st “warbird a 1943 Piper Cub/Grasshopper out of Gamston- much to my regret I don’t recall there serials.

Bottisham Airfield Museum
Duly signed Jason,
I hope all goes well and for a positive outcome

Mrs Waco and I are looking for a two night get away in November.
I’d like somewhere with a historic aviation twist.
Anywhere considered…..all thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Ps We have done the Petwood !
Waco- howsabout a double stop?
Firstly Finningley aka Robin hood, still reletivley recognisable as a former Expansion period airfield & 5-10 mins from Aeroventure- then onto Gamston, you’re only 20 mins up the A1 from Newark AM.
Within reach of DA is the racecourse- home to Britains first air-race in 1909 and NAM is a spit away from the former Balderton where the Poles took off for Arnhem.
just a thought, Rad
P.s. if you want to go further afield I believe that Pembrey in S.Wales is now GA (it’s where the 1st captured Fw 190 landed by mistake)& a nearby hotel is where Amelia Earhart Stayed.
Jason,
It’s probably a long shot, but have you thought of getting some support from radio or TV personalities? Not just on a local scale, but nationally?.
It may be worth a line to those who have a love for aviation or fast cars, i.e. James May, Chris Evans, David Jason or Martin Shaw.
Overall I hope for a positive outcome & your museum thrives on its current site- with all the effort you’re all putting into it deserves to!!!!!!
Regards Rad.
Yes they did. In fact they had the same code letters as 616 Squadron. I believe that when 92 changed their codes from GR to QJ in late May i think, 616 did not change theirs, so during the period of the Battle of Britain, 2 Spitfire squadrons had QJ on their aircraft!. So far as i can make out- and i`m sure i will be corrected if i`m wrong, 616 applied their codes slightly thinner and smaller.
Thank you One of the Few,
Someone on the Britmodeller forum was asking for confimation that 92 Sqn used QJ in Sept 1940, so I will pass the answer on.
As for the 616 Sqn codes, you’re correct about the sizes being different. The story goes that this was down to the sqn’s painter/finisher- a signwriter at a Doncaster coachworks in his normal job-who, when tasked to apply the codes did not have the specification so painted them as he thought right.

A small way of repaying the debt we owe this September has to be support of the preservation of that most iconic building in NW London, Bentley Priory. This is real bricks and mortar, and tangible history, and deserving of support. You know your duty… it’s a great cause!
What a marvellous idea. To echo what it says in the news article- At the heart of our capital, if Trafalgar Square commemerates Nelson’s Navy for saving England in 1805, then that is why it is so important Bentley priory commemerates Dowding & his airmen of The Battle of Britain for saving the world in 1940.
Just walked back into my Ambulance station after 13 hrs to catch the back end on the BBC.
A very sad day for all at Reno. My thoughts are for family & friends, and those who witnessed this appaling accident.:(
Unfortunately Jason what he probably mean’t was he is’nt interested in the past only the future.
I hope all goes well for the future of Bottesham, you can but try pointing out to him that if it was the case, why has the UK got in excess of 60 aircraft related museums, the popularity of C4’s Timeteam, the MVT or that he only got to be in his position because of the efforts made by the crews who flew from there along with other airmen, soldiers & sailors between 1939-1945.
Regards Rad.
Sorry about the geographical mix up- duly corrected:o:rolleyes:
