I don’t have any identifications for the pilots or the 317 Squadron Spits in the photos but thought they might be of interest.
Dan
Thanks for the info 🙂 I only have a scan of the photo sent by a friend whose Dad was a Polish refugee at the end of the war. He happened upon the Polish Spitfire Squadrons and they gave him some snapshots. I’ll see if I can get hard copies from him. I’d be happy to pass them on as soon as I can.
Mark12 has my e-mail. Speaking of which. Did the MB854 image make it through? I sent it last night.
Now for the updated ZF-R. I couldn’t get an exact count of the bombs and I’m obviously not positive on the color, but I went with the yellow again and made it 50 missions. If you know the exact I can adjust it.
I’ll post the other scans I have of the Polish pilots here too.
I’ll give it my best shot. I’ve already done Chris Doll’s Spit XII. It’ll be fun to do his Spit V. Heading out the door for some errands right now. No such thing as a real day off 🙂
I should find some time tonight though

Just for fun, Ray Harrie’s “Bromley” based on the info provided here.

53 views and no replies. This photo must confuse a few other folks too 🙂
Dan
Thanks all. That certainly fills in the details 🙂

And of course the profile I did a while back when I first started doing Spits. Since the odds of owning a XII are slim to none, should I win the lottery, a clipped wing, tall tail Spit XVIe in these markings would fill in nicely 🙂

KARMIE with white lettering. Still think it’s yellow or possibly a darker gray.
Dan
Updated KARMIE. I don’t think it’s white as the letters are clearly darker then the squadron codes in the closeup of the pilot on the cockpit door hinge. But I’ll do one with white too.
Dan
Hows this look? I think I got it closer regarding the camo demarcation lines.
Dan
Wow! They really were the long and the short of it 🙂
Thanks for posting that Geoff.
I’ll fix the camo. I thought I had the front, but I totally missed the tail. All part of the fun 🙂
Dan
KARMIE, minus the chipped paint 🙂
The book I have that has the photo says early 42 so I’m assuming the gray/green camo. If that’s not accurate I can sure change it. Just a guess on the color of KARMIE too.

Cheers Dan,When I clicked on this page, I was half expecting to see you’d done a profile of ‘KARMIE’ (bet you wish you’d kept quiet about those now 😉 )
The pilot is Sgt Clive Roy Briggs (403011), an Aussie, he died in NSW in 1980.
My copy of the photo came from Chris Doll, ex OiC ‘B’ flight 131 sqdn, and later TV & film producer. He was involved with the filming of ‘Battle of Britain’, but not sure how.
Any other sightings of ‘KARMIE’?
Geoff.
Interesting that you mention Chris Doll. I corresponded with him back in the mid 80s for a short time too. He was a Spit XII pilot with 91 Squadron. He and Ray Harries had both been Flight Comanders with 131. They were best of friends, being referred to as the ‘long and the short of it” as Chris was a lot taller then Ray Harries. I’ve got photo copies of his logbook from his 91 Squadron days.
I’ll get to work on the Karmie profile 🙂
