I am trying to discover if there is such a thing as a painting specification for the Vampire, giving details on where stencils etc go. Does anyone know if such a thing exists and where I might get a copy.
We have been interested in this also but on a contact with DH at Duxford by one of our guys it appears the drawings with the details on are available but they require a fee of £50 to release a copy. perhaps a few of us who need the info can club together share the cost and the drawings concerned.

Just checked the Whirlwind forum. The 3D designs are coming along nicely…
and with the work the team are doing we should have a set of working production drawings to create an airframe fairly soon.
Anything Vampire or Venom wanted and engine spares Goblin or Ghost. Any parts at all, but especially undercarriage parts. If you do have anything please PM me.:)
Hi PM or email me with your list and perhaps we can do some swaps as we need stuff also.

The Hydrographic office web site actually lists some interesting aircraft wrecks but not a great deal of interest.

Agreed the Magnesium alloy rear fuselage will have desolved long ago but from experience the rest of the airframe should be there and more importantly the centre section cockpit and engine bays with engines and undercarriage in place.
By the way in reference to the Malta surveys there are now some 30 plus aircraft wrecks identified ranging from 70 to 120 metres, some of them very, very interesting but I am not authorised to say more.

We contacted Odysey Exploration late last year because of Whirlwinds in the channel and in the North Sea and got a very dissapointing response. Basically there was nothing of aviation interest found in their surveys, this I suspect is short for they did not find any wrecked aircraft full of gold.

Lots of chipmunk stuff on evil bay recently including canopy and wings and tail bits.so plenty of stuff knocking about to make it more complete.
Any interest? I have the missing fuselage panel and cockpit parts too.
very interesting is that the tandem two seat version ?. pm with some details please and is there any undercarriage with it ?. Is it a registered build ?.
Mike E
we have a Flying Flea project fuselage and tail will fit in a 10 foot long shed you will need a bit bigger room for the wings.cockpit and undercarriage complete tail fabric covered and all in paint but needs metal work for engine mounting and pylons for wings,Engine needs a rebuild but includes parts and brand new prop and oil tank and fuel tank etc.Plus full set of plans and details. And can be made to ground run and taxi easily and can be transported around to shows etc fairly easily.

thats fair enough Bruce i dont think we where being awkward but once one person is perceived to have got round the rules then others will start getting out the drum and beating it for unfairness.
Mike E
Yes Bruce you have a point but how many Hurricanes and Spitfires for that matter (yes I know Spits again)do you know that have been up for sale recently and are in fact still up for sale that have not found buyers that we know of ?? I can think of a few
As someone says a sign of the times perhaps ?,the money not being about ?. overseas bank accounts not being so good for your money ?.(couldn’t resist the latter sorry if you have a Greek bank account).
Are we likely to see the prices come down significantly the market must surely find a level a lot lower than it is now the same as has been said in other threads the costs of parts and spares will have to come down for folks to want to buy these aircraft. Its no good paying top dollar for an aircraft then finding that you are being crippled by operating costs ie; spares, hangar age,and the dreaded insurance .I think owner/operators are getting a lot more carefull and cautious with their money but the sellers havent caught up with that yet !!
