Hi all , the RAAF T35 A79 660 pod is the on i used to own it could never be used as all attach points have being cut , no engine bulkhead and floor supported by 2 by 4 beams , which is why i sold it , seats panel etc. were good but pod was stuffed.

As for the Sea vamp it has being though a few owners and does have some damaged undersides and has no interior , so yes a bit dear has being listed many times.

    cheers dave

As we have one complete with engine a load of spares that is potentially ground running taxi able in very good condition and could even possibly if money was available form the basis of a return to flight project. It has costs us to date less than half of the asking price of this poor shell and you would then have to transport it I understand the ex Australian T35/T22 that was at Bournemouth now on its way to SouthAfrica only went for about £25k and that is definate a flying project.

there are a few Vampire projects out there in better condition and a lot nearer in europe and a fraction of the asking price.

Sorry wishfull thinking on this one.

When we obtained XG743 we where told at the time that no documentation existed. but by trawling through the catelogues of archive material held and with the assistance of staff at a different museum we now have ALL the form 700’s and maintenance logs not only for the airframe but the ejector seats as well.

It is surprising what is still lurking out there in storage in national collections and their archives not surprising they dont have a clue of the top of the bat what they do hold.

So never say never just get yourself a comfortable seat a good internet connection a decent phone manner and a cuppa and get stuck in.

Also the reward of a couple of boxes of a decent quality biscuit usually elicits a very positive attitude to your quest :D:D:D:D

    As regards
Log books we have been fortunate in that an appeal on our web site has brought response form two pilots who flew the aircraft in service who have very generously donated copies of their log books to us.

As regards personal log books such as Harold Penrose and others that have recently gone under the hammer at auction it is at the ned of the day up to the family to decide what happens to it.In some cases sadly log books and even medals have been lost by the simple matter relatives or others clearing possessions of a deceased see no value in them and they get skipped. It would be nice if all such log books could be held centrally of copies of them but who would collate such a thing and where would they be held ?. If it was done digitally then it would still take a lot of effort and staff and money to operate and maintain.

This is really fascinating stuff guys and girls and I would like to make two points if thats ok.

Firstly we should not condemn or condone those on the other side in such conflicts and they are in a lot cases just ordinary service men and women carrying out orders (there are some unpleasant exceptions but we will not go there)
But I for one would welcome any stories from the opposite side of the lines !!!

Also with such emotional posts and fantastic history being recorded here it would not hurt our younger generation to read such information.I know they deal with the First and second world war as part of the educational syllabus in the UK I do not know if they do it in other parts of the world.

My mum used to say they only way to learn is from the experiences of the past and if all these post do nothing other than to commemorate the acts of bravery of those mentioned and deter such a thing from ever happening again then it is a worth while exercise.

This has taken off in a very short spell in a way I did not even think it would reading through the posts so far is so touching all the different roles played during conflicts and I think it was one family alone affected by the loss of 17 family members.

Two posts have jogged my memory and may lead to some further information I don’t know.My Mums Brother Wynn Jones he was in the RE was taken prisoner at Singapore and was at Changi and died on the Death Railway he is buried at Thanbyziat just near the infamous bridge over the river.

As all the doubting Thomas’s can see the guys are working very hard in the background to achieve our ultimate aim of a free standing Whirlwind mk1 Fighter standing on its undercarriage.

Fourteen months of hard work and tireless pursuit of the slightest leads and the generosity of guys with experience and detailed knowledge of CAD has brought the project very near to the exciting prospect of cutting metal .

The drawings produced so far a sample was posted recently on this forum are an excellent reference point to manufacture an aircraft thought to be long extinct and never to be seen again.

Support of one and all in any form is greatly appreciated please feel free to visit our site.Or email or PM one of us to find out more.

Spitfires and parts buried at Castle Bromwich

I do know a bit about this one it surfaced around 25 plus years ago.

mark 12 I am sure if he was available would be able to confirm and fill in the details. And a certain Mr Saunders I am sure could also enlighten us on it.

Below the site of the Spitfire production facility at Castle Bromwich a load of spares and part built frames where buried also a part cellar /underground store came to light and it contained a lot of archive material, manuals, drawings, patterns, jigs etc.

I cannot recall what happened to a lot of this material but I know the parts and frames did not really get excavated as they are buried under the flats and houses built on the site. Some is apparantly under a garden and roadway

Its a bit like all the stuff that turned up at the end of the motorway at Stretton when they put the motorway through (Mosquito I think it was a couple of merlins came out of the hole on an excavator bucket)and at Burton Wood.

There is this sort of stuff all over the place buried under old MU’s and factory sites its just finding someone with a memory to lead you to it.

Its a lot like the Whirlwind at Westlands we all know its there but people are very vague about it,some suggest was it removed some who work there say definitely not but where is it ???

re instate the suspended three !!!!!

    By the way .
If anyone is waiting to hear from me please be patient as after I logged off from the forum last night my system was invaded by a remote computer that just blasted through all my firewalls and emptied the content from my Aircraft Folder NOTHING ELSE not even bank sensitive stuff etc. and just left the headings under aircraft. Very strange co incidence isnt it ???.My computer man is trying to backtrack who and where.

Has anyone else had a similar problem ????.

Big brother is out there !!!!!!!

If I might throw fifty pence in at the risk of getting banned, barred, painted green or called Shirley.

In the Uk any Trust,Charity,Or limited company must be open to Public scrutiny and in fact has to ensure its financial dealings and otherwise are totally transparent.

As I understand it 99% of the information and detail and accounts placed on the forum where in the public domain and by law had to be so.The FACTS that certain people had left a certain organisation and some of them had given notice they are connected with a new organisation is also FACT and IN PUBLIC DOMAIN. FACT a lot of conclusions and suggestions have been made and published in the PUBLIC DOMAIN that some of these persons connected with the previous organization have left and are now aligned with the other organisation and set up as leading figures in new companies related to certain aircraft projects recently in very high profile in the MEDIA and PUBLIC Domain.

As the three forumites concerned can only be viewed to have reproduced the same information etc already in the PUBLIC Domain it would seem that some individuals are viewing Key as a soft option when if they feel aggrieved they should in fact be threatening legal action against every NEWS CHANNEL,NEWS PAPER and AVIATION JOURNAL in the civilized world.

Or have I put it to simply for some ????.

Or to be very simple and blunt.

The three forumites did not make any link or publicized connection between two events ie; figures leaving (a well known and well-respected society) and forming other organisations in connection with rebuilding Spitfires Burma or otherwise and the Burma Spitfire thread the leading figures themselves did in the bumf related to the new companies and organisations that they are now connected to that they had released into the PUBLIC DOMAIN !!!!!

If then they are not happy with the fact that we can all read and digest such information for ourselves then they should have kept silent and not said anything about their change of aleigence or occupation to the media to start with.

    Disgusted of North Yorkshire.

Lets have a petition to reinstate the three ???????

Bex, please bear with the small modification to your post – Mods

As two of the persons concerned are very well respected in the aviation community I think that Key run the risk of alienating a lot of its members ,if we all have to think that anything we may say that we are responsible for ourselves might offend .This then brings up the question is it worth us having a forum and making a view point or opinion known and shared with like minded people or is it going to be censored or the poster banned without any it would seem right of discussion or appeal ?????.
