Another good reference source for information is the guys at the malta aviation museum Ray Polidano and Frederick Galea. The latter has been involved with many books on the subject of Malta and its air battles and the aircraft and is one of the most knowledgeable people on the subject.
I think you a good few years to late as 90% of these brave individuals are sadly flying on a different plane to the rest of us.
One of the main places to find information etc I would suggest you become a member of the Spitfire society and post some questions there and see what response you can get.The main thing to remember is most of these guys are getting on for minimum 80 years young and you may not get a response.

Help to identify radio equipment etc.
We are working on our new aircraft XG743 and she has had some very unusual modifications and has been used by the RAE for various things unknown in her latter days.
In the nose where there would usually be the G45 gun camera or a landing lamp there is a mounting base. All the instruments and equipment on the aircraft is loomed into this mounting and it looks like it could be some form of data recorder. She also had a very different radio and equipment fit in the nose to a T11 or a standard T22.
Would appreciate thoughts or leads on what the equipment may have been. One thought it may have been recording equipment when she was used as the chase aircraft for the proto S2 Buccaneer but we thought that it would probably been removed along time before that as she has been used for a lot of things since then.

I’ve undertaken a quick scan of ‘Cadet Corps Airframes’ (MCAS 1975) and can’t find any mention of an airframe either with 730 Squadron or in Truro. But as this publication lists ATC/CCF airfames under their types, if you know what was believed to be at Truro Grammar School in 1946/7, I’ll look again.
I know its a very outside chance but does th elist you have show engines etc as well as airframes ?.The reason being an ATC unit around Yeovil area at the end of the war had at least one RR Peregrine engine from the Whirlwind fighter any lleads appreciated if anything is shown. In fact if it shows any such engines with any Cadet units around the Uk also info appreciated.

Vampire at Errol
Can anyone help out with information on the Vampire T 11 at Errol ?.
Who owns it etc ??.

Having made contact with the owners of XH312 earlier this year, it isn’t for sale in any shape or form.
The fire was clearly VERY intense though as it consumed all the metal cockpit fittings (yes honestly!), so anything not too corroded will no doubt be badly heat damaged.

Scrap/Forlorn/available Vampires
If anyone knows contact details for the owner of this very sad example at Chester or any others including ones in Scotland we would be interested to hear.
If they are beyond hope we could probably make use of them for spares ships and even perhaps make one up out of what is out there.
The two seat Vampire models are 60 years old this year and having a wooden structure fuselage combined with our wonderfull weather and owners who insist on leaving them outside uncovered has taken its toll on the surviving population and perhaps we should gather together what is left for the future and possibly to help out those on display for parts etc.

Veterans did not volunteer !!!.
Can I just put ten pence worth in on this debate and clarify something.
All Hero’s from the second world war those who got medals for doing heroic things or not DID NOT VOLUNTEER. They where conscripted therefore the well they new what they where getting into argument I am sorry does not apply.
What they did is the reason that today we can live as we do and not live in a dictatorship or have the descendants of some very unpleasant individuals goosestepping down your local high street.
Fair enough after national service expired soldiers, sailors, and airmen had a choice but not before then they had to do and go where they where told, point their weapons at who they where told and pull the trigger when they where told.
