‘I’m Brian, and so is my wife!’

my magazine will run a feature when we get a press release hopefully tommrow https://www.facebook.com/TheVaultfreemagazine
I would be inclined not to hold your breath on the strength of it if I was you.:diablo::diablo::diablo:
Just to clarify some uncertainty that has been expressed.
As so rightly stated the exhibits belong to a national organisation that has to account for its actions.
This also means that once everything has been moved and allocated not only will the recipients of the items become public knowledge but also by the accountability and best value process the amounts paid will also be public knowledge.
I am sure that this will again generate very enthusiastic posts as to the merits of the recipients and the amounts paid.
Also as I understand it some if not all of these aircraft where offered to other collections within the UK who declined before they where offered for tender.
I trust that clarifies things for those that may still be confused as I am :diablo::diablo::diablo:
Allocation of IWM aircraft
I think that speculation either based in fact or otherwise on the destination of aircraft disposed of by IWM is perhaps not being very helpful to all parties concerned.
As I understand it the winning tenders are under a contractual obligation not to disclose any details, confirmation of success or otherwise until they actually have possession of the items and their contract with IWM is complete and the IWM have agreed that a MUTUAL press release for the benefit of both parties can be issued.
With respect might I suggest that by all means discuss the merits of the IWM disposals if you so wish but refrain from actually naming the destinations of the aircraft if you believe you know them or the successful tenders as you may not be being very helpful but just the opposite. As at least one post here mentions the source as IWM staff that could possibly put someones job on the line for breaching confidentiality clauses in their contract of employment.
Again perhaps a little thought before posting might be helpful I am sure all will be revealed or confirmed officially in due course.
for what its worth if it comes to anything being my skeptical self I would go as far as saying if they find more than a handfull that are fit for anything then they can count themselves very lucky. It depends on the soil, the packaging, the damp, the local burrowing wildlife etc and of course the enterprising natives who may have watched any aircraft being buried then dug them up and recycled what they found.
Sorry a lot of Ifs as Mark says lets wait and see what appears if anything.

Madapolin
The Vampire pod originally was covered in madapolin fabric.
What are folks using these days as a replacement ? obviously the first thoughts are Egyptian Cotton or Irish Linen but they both are quite different from the original.
The surface and the woodwork underneath still needs to be able to breath.
So What is being used elsewhere ??.

ground handling equipment
Has anyone got surplus or know where we may locate appropriate jacks and stands suitable for a Vampire please.
We know most of the original Vampire specific stuff no longer exists but there is gear out there that is suitable as a replacement its just finding it.
We need to support the fuselage ,wings etc for assembly and also for access to systems and function checks.
Any undercarriage locking pins (with flags) control locks etc.
Wheeel chocks.
Also still looking for Vampire T 11/T22/T55 series main fuselage fuel tank to purchase or loan for copying purposes.
Same on mine (T.11)
Thats different up to now I have seen Vampire Nose bays in Silver,Cream,White and even light grey . The white/cream ones seem to have come out of service that way as all the gear is present and does not appear to have been painted round ?? I seem to remember the 35 or so airframes we had at Woodford in 1971/72 had various colours in. Most of the cockpits did seem black or very worn variations of same.
Mike E
Yes, if you have seen any variation in colours, it is post service. Everything is black in the cockpit; its a veritable coal hole!
There arent many publications on the T11 as such. Look for piccies.
Incidentally Mike, I think its time all your Vampire activity went into one thread!
Bruce
Fine by me I think its down to a Mod isnt it to transfer it all into one lump ???
If so to save confusion just title it ” ARG Vampires” please.
Ta.
