Hi all. First, I’ve never got my hands dirty in my life. And as I am so far away from the action, it is most unlikely that I ever will. I suppose I am a one man drawing office doing my best to help two Lancaster part-replica projects. But I can’t ignore the cost and availability of tools etc.
I had a very quick look at the de Havilland Moth Club Service Register. Apart from one mention of tools for hire which needs to be explored, there doesn’t appear to be anything to fit the needs of the men doing this work. Two of the tools on the agenda at the moment are a die for drawing the stringers and some sort of reamer for making raised rims in the lightening holes of the formers. The issue for the first is cost, for the second finding the right size.
So therefore I would certainly support Firebex’s suggestion.
Best to all
Mike
Dishing lightining holes can be an expensive or a relatively cheap exercise it only involves two pieces of hard wood and a bit of hard wood dowl.I will post some pictures of a simple version in next 24 hours and a DIY how to make it guide.

Had to move one accross the runway at Biggin Hill many moons ago. What an awful awkward heavy lump to move on the ground !!!!!!!!.
Yes please Redhillwings, probably best start a new thread and then let the questions roll in, I’m sure there will be plenty of interest in it here:)
Understatement I had only time for 5 minutes looking at the very impressive beast. The gentleman with the project explained there are 5 or 6 more complete examples waiting someone to do something with them. The question is where and do I need to win the lottery ???
Mike E
Thankyou Ian!
To add to Redhillwings, not many of the WW2 are reproductions really as they are based on real structure/parts. I dont regard my Seafire as a reproduction at all!
I showed the whirly screen which should grow to something bigger soon! Though Firebex did not notice it…may have been just as well lol!
I was in such a hurry dear boy I dont think I was in the premises more than about 35 minutes from arriving to departing back to a family do in North Yorkshire.I did manage to grab all the spitfire cowls I could find that a very nice man had on his stall.I think one or two people missed those :diablo::diablo::diablo: . I had a quick look round then off like the Cobra wouldnt mind on eof thoise myself the man did say there are 6 more somewhere ???.
All being well we will be bringing something to CF next year not sure what but it could be very interesting, piston engined and very rare. Not the whirlwind. And not just a cockpit.:D:D
Griffon Exhaust Stubs
Sorry should have made it clear looking for Griffon powered night fighter exhaust stubs.
One certain very rich person connected with a computing empire has today given 600 million to charity for third world aid.Very noble but what could we do with poeople like him just donating 10 % of that figure to supporting aviation and heritage in the UK this would generate more income and also employment for many and create more money for good causes.Likewise this would benifit other countries in a similar way with investment there.people in such a strong financial position should be encouraged to re invest in the society that put them where they are financialy

Anyone know akready or have more or have photos?
Is well on the way to make flying appearances maybe within the next year at airshows…if what im told is right.

Hi Daniel there is a thread already dealing with this in the forum there are in fact I think I am correct in saying 5 airframes under rebuild.Yes rebuild they are not replicas but supposed to be rebuilds of original airframes.
How much will you have to pay to see the undercarriage legs ???:diablo::diablo:
