Richard
Could happen anywhere in the Midlands !!!!!
I am hoping to get down for either Saturday or Sunday as I have to collect some stuff. I may have some T shirts etc for the Whirlwind Project if anyone wnats one please let me know or visit our web site.
What is the best way to get in with a trailer to collect stuff but not exactly a participant ??
Would there be any space for say a small table for some surplus stuff if we could sort something but it would only be for one day or the other.Have a very large cockpit we could bring sdonw but no transport for it at present.
Spitfire Spares have 2 bladed Spitfire Props on sale.;)
Why dont you ask Graham himself (AKA Spitfire Spares)he is on the forum and no doubt he can confirm what they are.

Yep sorry I made it to easy I will have to try a lot harder.
Yes its a mossie that turned up on Malta fairly recently. In the south of the island used to be a character who had lots of bit s of aircraft including around 6 Mossie nose persepex etc he would not sell then after many year sthey all got smahsed.Well he died not very long ago and his son suddenly contacted the Museum at Taqali and offered it to them. It sidentity is unkinown but around 6 Mossies had major accidents on th eisland so it is assumed to be one of them.If only over the 20 years plus we had been going to see him we had known he had this sitting in his yard !!!!
They hope to go back shortly to speak to him as its is thought there might be a couple more bits surviving in the undergrowth.
As a PS Ted Whites Harvard Engine and prop have also been rescued from the same place.
Wasn’t there one of those in the RAF Millom Museum sale?
Anon.
sods law stuff turns before you want it and then realise you have missed it.
Yes sorry my crap spelling after a 14 hour day and stressfull flight.
The basic core of the engine is there I understand but is missing some barrels, heads and ancilliaries.
Hi Mike,
I have a 1960s Dunlop Aviation Equipment brochure that lists the following tyre sizes for the Dragonfly:
6.00- 6 1/2 Smooth tread
4 ply
p/n for Nylon material: DS.3065
p/n for Rayon material: IAER.25Tyre size/ply is same for Chipmunk and some Auster main wheels but with different tread patterns and therefore different p/n.
Sorry, no info on wheels at all.
Hope that helps.
Regards
Dave
Many thanks for that Dave I will pass it on.
Oh god no Mike, now what are you roping us into? 😮
P.S. Not had chance to visit the ‘workshop’ reasons are many inc a trip up to that secret Scottish maratime base. will fill you in next week 😎
Fear not guys we are not being invaded by hairdryers. The lads in Malta have a Dragonfly on its way in fact the tail boom and some stuff has arrived already but the aircraft has been robbed extensively for another one so needs some help.
Has anyone thought of trying Air Atlantique at Coventry as they have/had a couple of spare airframes and a lot of material.
If they ar ethinking of using the wing sections and other parts from the scrap yard they are about 11 months to late it has been totaly wiped clean off the face of the map. Here in Malta (over here at present)we have the two hastings cockpit sections and a couple of bits in storage. An american gentleman bought some of the other stuff (and raised all the prices to ridiculous leveles),heritage Malta has the part remains of the sea hawk (god knows why its is beyond redemption).
I never saw any wings in the scrap yard in all the many hours I spent in there
the only Hastings parts where Two cockpit sections badly knocked about and the remains of two wing sections with the engine nacelles on and undercarriage in place but not what you would describe as either a centre section or an outer wingas they had been chopped very randomly.
I there fore wonder where these major wing sections are as I dont think they are coming from here ?.I will make some enquiries tomorrow and post back .
Just a thought for a Northern venue…..
Elvington suffered due to the influx of non-paying visitors to the north of the airfield…… Leeming wouldn’t!
Big runway, big static area, usually quiet RAF station… It would be as good as, if not better than Linton on Ouse as a venue.
The Northern Aviators may toy with the idea of a full blown airshow at Eshott in the next few years….
I would support that one !!!
You never know 4 years time could see the Whirlwind on the static park on its debut !!!!!!!
Mike, can you confirm that the Great North Fly In is your first public engagement as a project?
(Eshott, Northumberland, 25/26 June)
YEP !!!!!!! provided we get our new bus up and running in time.We will also be bringing an unusual cockpit !!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D
I was involved with the first couple of Elvington events but politics etc have caused problems but yes it is an ideal location.many years ago I on an annual basis we used to spend 10 days every year moving lock stock and barrel to a temporary camp site on a wind swept aerodrome and converting it for a two day airshow. The show was Great War Birds I along with Peter Smith used to run the ground support side of things.Laying out the airfield, fencing, car parks, toilets, bins, ground crews etc. Very tired at the end of it but went back for more until we finished off at Wroughton. The ground support is the most important part of the show and mainly unseen and unknown but an event dont happen without it.
A location Ideal would be Woodford for the North of England or possibly try to get one of the dormant RAF stations. Church Fenton for one would be really ideal as its down to not much more than a university unit and ATC. Topcliffe would be another possible if the Army would give permission for access not going via their bit. Dishforth right next to the A! /A19 interchange three runways ATC the lot only a few helicopters in the hangars now that if the army ever moved out could be the Duxford of the North !!!!!.Plus we have a lot of cockpits etc,and interesting aircraft north of Birmingham so we could have a damn interesting and interactive static park !!!
I digress sorry
but if you ever want any experienced guys for the ground crew ,airfield set up let us know.We also used to organise the mini shows at Manchester Barton including the one we sadly lost the mossie at.Now they got done on a mini budget.
