might seem a silly question but a genuine one. talking of Mosquito’s do we know any current status of the attempt to build/rebuild such an aircraft in the UK ??. I don’t seem to be able to find any current reference to the project.Last i recall was being involved with the indepth exchanges re the merits of the projects materials, source of aircraft to rebuild, the CAA’s view of the project how it was going to be done to conform etc, etc, etc.
Apart from some of the scurrilous comments and mutterings the thread did have a lot of serious input but I might be wrong but did we not ruffle feathers because of our input and even the constructive comments from those with experience and in the know ??.
Is it another subject that the persons involved seem over sensitive and have become a club of recluse’s I am sure the input for the most part was well meant.

Neil Macarthy has got a spitfire cockpit section that can be sat in but I cant for the life of me think what mark it is.He has recently sold of his Mk2 to the Ulster Museum of science and Industry but I am almost certain he still has the cockpit section.

as I understand it if the previous ones are anything to go by its a shame they are unable to fly in Europe or for that matter the UK because of changes they have made to the material specs and glues used in the rebuild process.thus making it technically a new design aircraft. Other than that I would think the price is not to far off the mark if it could fly in the UK.

re the Dam busters remake a lot of money has been spent already the ten full size replica Lancaster’s are sitting in a storage warehouse in NZ. But it has run into production problems as the producer to be David Frost has died.
There have been arguments over departing from fact as a certain Mr fry employed on the screen play has tried a few different versions of names for Guy Gibson’s Dog because Nigger is said to be to racist even though it was the poor animals name. And also funding is said to be an issue as US backers have apparently questioned why they should put money into a project about something the Brits did during ww2 and it does not have either Tom Cruise ,Bruce Willis,or Arnie in it ?? .
So will it appear in the next ten years or are we to see full size Lancaster replicas being auctioned off ?? I suspect possibly the latter.
I guess the Hunter owner isn’t in any rush – somewhat defeats the arguement however by repeatedly advertising it if he isnt!
if I m not mistaken he has also put the price back up by £5k.
By the time he has finished he will probably have spent a fortune on advertising before it clicks it cant be returned to the air there is no paperwork and no engine spares and very little chance of anyone giving him that sort of money for a static museum display.
There also seems to be some correlation to records held by RR on log cards and servicing data.
We where offered a couple of Merlins a few years ago and we contact RR historical section at Derby and they came back to us and told us the Spitfires they had been first fitted to.This turned out to be the two Spitfires that Mid Aired near Catterick.
So it seems that info for at least some engines still exists. It wont give squadrons etc but from our experience it at least gives type and a serial number to tie to the initial airframe the unit was installed into.

Of course it was not the only incident as I think it was either a Shackleton or a Lincoln that was shot down around or just post Berlin airlift.

there are at least two karriers in Malta one at the museum at Taqali and one in storage
Eh? How much!?!?! 😮 😮
Perhaps its the only copy in existence or it has gold leaf on every page and a tooled leather binding ??. But I very much doubt it on all counts perhaps he has just put the full stops in the wrong place and its $41.60
Its too much money Eric ! Flying Jet Provosts are not that expensive now!
isnt that one of Chris W’s advert pictures for the 9 air frames he was selling or is this guy an agent selling them for him ???
£18,000 equals about that much in euro’s doesn’t it ??.
The Hunter is a Sapphire powered example – so any ideas of putting it anywhere in the air is a non starter.
The seller does not seem to understand the relevance of paperwork etc he claims there are lots of sapphires in Australia and as the aircraft has cold war history its worth a fortune at least he has lowered his price to £45,000. Like you I will wait to it comes down to sensible levels and the seller comes out of his hallucinations stage and gets into the real world. Sadly I can see him ultimately chopping it up and selling the cockpit section off or trying to for daft money. Good for the cockpit collectors I suppose but not for what the aircraft really needs a good home for such a significant airframe but as usual the seller does not understand the realities of paperwork value verses value with just history and a nice paint job.I have lots of pics including the cockpit area that is complete if anyone wants to try to talk him into the real world but best of British.
believe it or not that 6 wheel fire vehicle and the mobile control tower still exist to this day
in storage in MALTA.
