Hopefully this image will be of use, I couldn’t find it anywhere else in this thread so hopefully it is ‘new’.
Paul
Nice one Paul havent got that one we have a few with different views of the centre section and some of aircraft having been involved in accidents that show internals. It does give some good information on the engine bays etc coming off the centre section.
firebex, have you anyone who travels down from the north? if so, id be happy to come help if i could jump in with someone
Unfortunately we dont currently but things may change in that direction before to long !! will let you know.
Mike
Seriously all ages and genders are welcome and any nationality provided we dont have to pay their airfare to get here.
Sorry if you have arrived from Calais in the back of a waggon we may have to consider very carefully if we can use you kind offer of help!!!.:D
wasnt down in the South East by any chance was it Tony ?.I know of a couple of people who have had unwanted visitors recently and aviation related material has gone missing.
I think it is a good policy if you have a valued collection or a stores of aviation related materail keep the number of visitors or people in th eknow to a limited number.there seems to be a lot of this sort of theft going on at the moment.
In our old workshops we had unwanted visitors and stuff went missing since our move we dont advertise our exact location and keep it down to specific invited visitors only so we can narrow down in future any problems or unwelcome visitors.
Evening Paul! Good stuff. Rest of ribs coming soon!
Beermat and Company our Cad pro’s it has been suggested with all the material we have available is it feasible to produce a virtual Whirlwind and perhaps reproduce it in some way for interested parties for donations to the build fund.
Good idea or not a practical one ???. Open to the floor as usual.
Artists wanted.
Hi guys
I am looking for the budding artists or cartoonists amongst you. With our past links with the RBL Spit etc we have a good contact for decent quality tea shirts and sweat shirts and I thought that a good way to start some fund raising was with a T shirt and sweat shirt for the project.I think we need either a nice three view or something along the lines of a cartoon of the Whirlwind but it has to be something we can have permission to reproduce and not infinge anyones copyright.
So open to suggestions and offers for a logo or drawing or cartoon to go onto items to fund raise and that can go around the shows with perhaps a stand raising funds for the project.People are more likely to spend a tenner on a decent quality T shirt than throw a tenner into a bucket of course the project does not benifit as much with the T shirt or Sweat shirt but its money in the materials pot !!!.
Of course anyone out there who would like to throw a tenner into the pot just let me know or indeed if there is someone who would like to donate more in sponsorship for the project ?.Please PM for details.
Yes Paul even more food for thought I stand corrected on the number of dedicated aircraft I am confusing the number with another aircraft. Thanks Jerry and others for pointing that out.
I think we have decided that its goimg to be standard scheme of the time lets see what comes of everything else.
Interested in the aircraft mentioned as having been overlooked then I think its was Jerry who mention some bit shad actually been recovered and display in a collection.Any More details of that please ?.Either of the crash site location or the collection displaying the parts or Both.
Well B***** me, I live in South Lincs, and have been trying to tunnel North for the last 30 yrs, now you tell me they allready exist, wheres the nearest one to me?.Can’t wait to get away to up North, do I need a Passport?.
Lincoln .7
:diablo:
Yes Passport controls are situated at the A1 M18 interchange and the M1 M18 Junction.Yorkshire birth certificate holders do not need to stop !!!!
Damn and here was I thinking you were trying to set up the likes of the French resistance escape routes used during WW2 but in this case to smuggle people out of North Yorkshire…… :p
Nay lad you have got it wrong all yon southerners are trying to buy yorkshire to escape from the rest of the country and all the Tunnels lead North.Same as all motorways from London and Southwest its FACT they all lead North !!!!!!!.
Where did all the decent aircraft start their life ?
Lancaster ; North ,Anson ; North,Swordfish ;North,Vulcan; North,Nimrod Mr1;North,Shackleton;North, HS748;North, HS146,RJ70,RJ80,RJ100; North
and so many many more !!!!!!!. I rest my case.
The only two decent aircraft from the south where the Spitfire and the Hurricane and they had to build the Spitfire in Brum that is nearly north !!!.
Hi
I think from memory, at the time of the incident they were flying typhoons, not whirlwinds. The replica (263) HE one side and (137) SF on the other sounds good.
But to me, it should be just roundels & fin flash, to remember all the units who flew & worked on the whirlwind.
cheers
Jerry
We have not got as far as this yet but my own personal thoughts are a general scheme for the period as carried by the Whirlwinds. But whatever I feel it would be good to in some way recognise our good Friend Shed man.Ray put an awfull lot into bringing the Whirlwind back to life and I think we should also recognise that without his inspiration that perhaps we would not be contemplating what we are now and not only a memorial to the guys who flew the whirlwind and the ground crews but o Ray also.I am not sure as yet how best to do this but I also think that if we represent an aircraft that was named and there where from memory 11 of them that the suggestion that we go with the “Yeovil” named aircraft has a lot of merit.I think representing the plain coloured Prototype or the hack G-AGOI or an unbuilt aircraft serial raises all sorts of issue’s in itself.
There are a number of things in the pipeline at present I currently cant go into to much detail on but it involves two crash sites where substantial remains could exist and we should therefore not discount the possibility of pulling enough material to justify using the ID of an aircraft remains recovered.
So now we have gone all round the houses and still not got a definitive answer so I suggest we wait until we have metal cut and the project well under way then we look at the merits of it being either one aircraft or another. There is techinialy I suppose enough material from Steves recovery in Scotland to raise an identity but we shall see what happens and leave it at that for now.
Can you expand a little on what projects you are planning?
Currently working on a MkII Spit, a Mk14 Spit,A flying Flea,A soko Kraguj Gunship,Vampire T11,and of Course a Whirlwind is that enough variation for you ?.(the latter is the twin engined fighter NOT the hairdryer of the same name). Then of course what ever else pops in for repairs recently this has included a Delfin cockpit,B727 cockpit and other interesting items.
Likewise we have various bits and pieces aviation related that would do nicely for fund raisers for the Whirlwind etc.Perhaps we should organise one up here in deepest darkest northern regions of the UK ?.Anyone up for that ?.Then if so we will have to find a venue and a date later in the year ?.
I actually have 5 original K5054 propellors in a variety of tasteful colours so ALL yours are fakes!!!
Yes Tony but tell them who you bought them off !!!!. Some very iffy looking Scotsman with a beard !!! claimed they just fell off the skip lorry they did officer !!!!!!
Thanks Beermat and good luck with the impending junior aviator.
I was thinking it looked a bit out of proportion did not twig it was Welkin
the old age thing must be catching
