26DK is Lightning, according to my RAF Stores Sections list.
It says Centre Fuselage Sling so, presumably, that is what it is for – slinging a Lightning centre fuselage.

was asked to follow up on the Hunter by a very interested party with the budget available to put such an aircraft back into the air.But it seems to be not very likely as there is No paperwork what so ever with the aircraft for anything.
And the vendor does not seem to understand the importance of having such paperwork to prove provenance, hours, maintenance history etc.So sadly even though a nice aircraft over valued to the extreme as a static museum piece. I hope someone is able to get it for something nearer its true value and do it justice and not just have it scrapped and someone cut the cockpit off it. It might be possible to get her ground running and taxiable but even so not at that sort of asking price when you will need to spend a good bit to get her running safely.

55K is getting close to airworthy Hunter money ! Hope springs eternal!
And some David there was recently a Hunter being offered for sale airworthy for that sort of money.granted not many hours left on the engine but it was. No mention at all of any documentation with it to support any claims of being able to be returned to flight. No documentation = nice static = £10k-£12k max probably if you really wanted it
You can currently purchase an airworthy Delfin complete with engine for £40,000 sterling whats that about 65,000 euro’s ???. so well over the top for just an engine.Must be gold plated one again .
I think the IWM has made a rod for its own back with the sale of a number of airframes last year and the projected sale of more airframes this year (T-33, B-25 and Avenger et al).
Is it official that they are going to sell these airframes or just speculation ?
I would question the lovely climate of Sand,Sea and a salt laden atmosphere the last place I would consider placing, displaying, restoring and operating historic aircraft.
But there again there must be something to it as one leading company has moved from Coventry to that part of the world must know something about salt air corrosion that isnt in books. Isnt that why the RAF had car wash’s for their aircraft including Nimrods every time they returned from flight ops.?????
Must be a better located airfield inland and more central in the UK to operate from ??. The RAF have just moved totally our of RAF Church Fenton that’s apparently now up for sale ??.

Yes he was born just outside Leyburn on a farm I think it was his nav that was from somewhere like Northallerton but I am not certain on that one as I dont have the details to hand.
But Broadley’s medals and one of his uniforms and photo’s and all sorts of memorabilia are proudly displayed in a full shop window in the market place during the event. I dont know if they have anything to commemorate the 70th especially but I will mention it to Kate.

no problem appreciate the input from anyone as long as its constructive or makes me smile.
I am willing to share our search’s for grease’s and oil for our old ladies as it could help others in their similar search’s.
After all the longer we keep old ladies working the more likely we are to use up old stocks of stuff that is no longer being made.
Still looking for ignitor plugs for a Goblin by the way ??
I know my wording is going to bring some comment out of the deep dark woodwork somewhere
relating to old ladies. But the majority of people reading the post will know what I mean.

One very important point to note if you are aiming at return to flight. For every component you update and modernise you must carry out full test schedules even to destruction and then prove it to the CAA with full supporting evidence and specifications etc. Basically you are changing the design of the aircrafts components and its not the same as designed and built by the manufacturer for the original type approvals.
I think you could be putting yourself into “I am sorry you cant have permission to fly you have changed the aircrafts design”
I seem to recall a group of individuals rebuilding Mosquito’s changed the glues to modern ones and the same for timber specs all acceptable you would think. But thats why they cant fly in or over Europe and have to be dismantled and shipped to the US etc to be able to fly.
In short keep it original as designed with supporting paperwork and they cant kick you in the goolies for trying to improve it and heaven forbid make it more reliable. Its not as designed dear boy !!!!!!
Thanks a lot Tony for the info.
In fact I had asked a local oil company off chance that they could get it and th eman came back to me today
and said yes they can get it but I have to buy a 25 litre drum minimum. When he said the price was only £48 plus vat I didnt
argue when you can pay that much nearly for some ordinary motor oil in 5 litre cans.
So if anyone else needs some or similar let me know the number and I will ask the guy he seems linked into a major supplier but it wont have paperwork.
Thanks again
