I have read with interest a couple of post re the impact to the environment of aviation and airdisplays.
Might I point out the scientificaly proven fact that Cows Farting have greater impact on global warming and this planet that Aircraft or any other mode of transport. Also that wind farms have been proven to be detrimental to wildlife ie; migrating birds who do not realise the danger posed by wind farms !!!!!

Iām afraid this has been bubbling around for this thread for a few days now ⦠will it be at Cockpit-Fest? :diablo:
Joking aside, it might be a chance for some face to face dialogue with owners of similar projects!
Hi Twin Otter not sure if the above is a serious point or an Advert ?. Or perhaps its both. The nearest thing that we have available that could make cockpit fest would be a Vampire cockpit and a Delfin cockpit the B727 is a long way off being sorted.
Anyway its a bit awkward trying to bring full size aircraft to Cockpit fest and as someone said to me only recently the clue is in the name of the event !!!!!.We ultimately hope to have a full aircraft .Unless of course do we know if there are any Whirlwind cockpit sections going ?.
Have got a lot of decent info but there is still a lot of guestimation to be undertaken at the moment (thats half way between a guess and an estimate).
Have got a lot towards being able to construct the cockpit area with reasonable accuracy ,a lot of dimensioned stuff and detail on the centre section but the rear fuselage and the outer wings are a bit of a mystery at present.
OIL DEAR BOY OIL !!!!!!!!!!
I am reliably informed that the Islands basicaly float on the stuff.
If the Yanks (excuses to our colonial refugees)can do it in the middle east ie; Iraq,Kuwait etc.I am sure if the Argentinians dont find some way of doing it we might find that Uncle Sam comes up with some obscure mineral rights !!!!!
Dont forget B.P certainly aint British anymore !!!!!!

Post man brought me lots of goodies today as I have been trawling Ebay (other even better sites available)and other places and have been fortunate to pick up lots of different books and publications on the Whirlwind the book by Victor Bingham printed by Airlife publishing ISBN 1 85310 004 8 published in 1987 being one of the very notable ones. The guy seemed to have done a lot of research and to have had access to a fair bit of information. and quotes sources including RAE Farnborough the Public records office ,RAF Museum Hendon and a lot of references in other publications. Anyone interested in the Whirlwind I am sure will find this book of great interest. It also contains the fate of the majority of the aircraft lost in service including the pilots, approximate locations and dates etc.Sadly we will need a big boat and a very long snorkel to reach a lot of them I think from memory some 14 aircraft are down in the water but in so saying at least three of them ditched and the pilots stepped out into the oggin.A few lost on railway line shoot ups against armoured trains in France.
The thing is though, should it ever come to an all out shooting match again, fixed bases are going to be at the top of the priority target list. The most stupid thing is getting rid of the Harrier and Aircraft carriers before we had a viable replacement operational.
Makes you sort of wonder what we would do if the Argentinians got a dose of brave water again !!!!!!!!
Best wishes hope he is feeling better soon and back on form !!!
Staverton has a long history with aircraft museums and it is great news that you have managed to get planning etc through.
Good luck with your projects.
In the 1990’s MHAS had a Two Seat T7 Hunter an ex export (Danish I think) single seater and a cockpit do not have a clue what happened to them I hope they still survive.Sadly about 18 months after I left the place seemed to go to pot and their tenancy at Barton seemed to go shall we call it not to be personal very fluid.I lost track of things having no further connection with them as I was involved with new projects in the North East and outside of the UK.
Then of course talking of alongside the A1 there is/was the Lightning as you approach Newark on the South bound side.Very sad about that aircraft
Firebex, could this recent thread be the Hunter you saw ??
Keith.
Hi Keith Not sure the photo’s show an aircraft that looks a bit more tidy and clean than the one we saw but perhaps we caught her on a bad day and dirty.
I wish I could remember the damn service area,All I can remember is that inside it has a lot of memorabilia and a rememberance section to pilots and aircrew who had lost their lives.
I am not 100% but the ATC squadron I think was something like Baldock ? there was a very worn and tired sign to this effect in the cockpit window. The aircraft is or was parked right up in the far corner of the service area against the barrier to the roadway and had a couple of cones and a bit of barrier tape around it.It was also on the WEST bound carriage way service area. I remember we were travelling back from visiting GB replicas heading back to Newark area to rejoin the A1 to come back North with a trailer load of Spitfire stuff.Have been back that way once since but did not notice the aircraft unless it was moved back from the road side but it was first time very easy to spot and you could see it from both directions.
Very pleased to hear about 509 what about the Hunter that belonged to the ATC that sat in a service area on the A17 I think it is I last saw it about 4 years ago and it was looking tired and in need of TLC
yep the stuff is still out there for all to see.It reminds me of a lovely 14 days spent in Switzerland in the mid 90’s absolutely tons of stuff in little villages all over the place sitting in parks,in people back gardens !!!! and supermarket carparks !!!
